Community Support – Ariana Ford
Parents in our community have asked how they can support Ariana from Year 1 who has Aplastic Anaemia. Michael and Bec, Ariana’s parents, have come up with a wonderful suggestion below in regards to donating blood. If you are someone who has thought about donating or actively donates blood, then this would be a wonderful way for you to do so.
Towards the end of last year, Ariana was diagnosed with a type of bone marrow failure and her body is no longer able to make required amounts of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Ariana is now transfusion dependent and relies on the generosity of lifesaving blood donors. She currently requires daily platelet transfusions and fortnightly blood transfusions.
Michael and Bec are wanting to give back to Australian Red Cross Lifeblood as they are giving so much in support of Ariana. They have created an Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Team called "Ariana’s Angels" for Ariana and would love for people to join the lifeblood team and book in to donate blood/plasma/platelets. While Ariana may not directly receive your blood donations, your donation will be recorded against her name and will save up to 3 lives.
Head to www.donateblood.com.au to join “Ariana’s Angels”, check your eligibility to donate and schedule a donation. To join the team:
- Register/log in at www.donateblood.com.au
- Click the person icon on the top right of the homepage.
- Go to the My details menu at the top and click on Manage details.
- At the top right of this page, click on Update my preferences.
- Next to the ‘Lifeblood Team’ heading, start typing “Ariana’s Angels” into the box. When the team name appears in the supplied options, click on it and press Submit.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save updates.

Tuckshop Volunteers Needed
Karen has received many offers for assistance in the Tuckshop and she is extremely grateful, many of these offers are for the early morning time slots. If, however you are able to spend the day in the tuckshop or a later session (ie. 12:00-1:30pm) that would be of great benefit to Karen as well. If you have little ones, they are very welcome to come along.
Please contact the front office or fill in the tuckshop volunteer form to let us know you are able to help and when.
ELC NEWS
Preschool 3pm Dismissal Procedure
Next week will be changing our 3pm dismissal procedure slightly. The children attending after preschool program will gather in one classroom and the children going home at 3pm will gather in the other. These classrooms will rotate each week (check the whiteboard if you are lost). Each group will participate in singing for the last ten minutes of the preschool program. You are welcome to collect your child from 2:50 during the singing session.
Before 9am and after 3pm
If you require care for your child prior to 9am or after 3pm, you are required to make a booking via emailing the ELC office. If you do not have a booking and your child is still at the centre at 3:10 they will be booked into the after preschool program and you will be billed for the session.
Library
Reminder Library day is every Wednesday, please remember to pack the library book and bag each week so as your child can borrow a new book.
SZApp
St Jude’s uses SZApp as one form of communication with families. You can download SZApp for free from iTunes or the Google Play Store. For further instructions go to the ‘For Parents’ tab on the school website.
ELC Accounts
A reminder that your ELC fees for week 5 and 6 are due tomorrow, Friday 26 February.
Entertainment Book
