Community Support – Ariana Ford

Parents in our community have asked how they can support Ariana from Year 1 who has Aplastic Anaemia.  Michael and Bec, Ariana’s parents, have come up with a wonderful suggestion below in regards to donating blood.  If you are someone who has thought about donating or actively donates blood, then this would be a wonderful way for you to do so. 

 

Towards the end of last year, Ariana was diagnosed with a type of bone marrow failure and her body is no longer able to make required amounts of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Ariana is now transfusion dependent and relies on the generosity of lifesaving blood donors. She currently requires daily platelet transfusions and fortnightly blood transfusions. 

 

Michael and Bec are wanting to give back to Australian Red Cross Lifeblood as they are giving so much in support of Ariana. They have created an Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Team called "Ariana’s Angels" for Ariana and would love for people to join the lifeblood team and book in to donate blood/plasma/platelets. While Ariana may not directly receive your blood donations, your donation will be recorded against her name and will save up to 3 lives.

 

Head to www.donateblood.com.au to join “Ariana’s Angels”, check your eligibility to donate and schedule a donation. To join the team:

  1. Register/log in at www.donateblood.com.au 
  2. Click the person icon on the top right of the homepage.
  3. Go to the My details menu at the top and click on Manage details.
  4. At the top right of this page, click on Update my preferences. 
  5. Next to the ‘Lifeblood Team’ heading, start typing “Ariana’s Angels” into the box. When the team name appears in the supplied options, click on it and press Submit.
  6. At the bottom of the page, click Save updates.
