School Wide Positive Behaviours
At SJV, we use a 'Token System' to highlight and celebrate students who consistently follow our school rules and demonstrate high-quality behaviour.
When staff members are ‘secretly scouting for superstars' to observe students doing the right thing, they are awarded a yellow token as a positive acknowledgement. These tokens can then be 'traded in'.
Here is the progression of our Token Reward System:
-
10 Yellow Tokens = 1 Red Token
-
5 Red Tokens = 1 Blue Token
-
3 Blue Tokens = 1 White Token
Reaching White Token status is a significant achievement. It means the student has shown 150 positive behaviours, acknowledged by a variety of staff members.
To celebrate this milestone:
-
White Token recipients enjoy a special canteen lunch with Mr Rodda.
-
Year 6 students, as leaders of the school, have the option to choose a takeaway lunch, often from McDonald’s.
Tokens accumulate over a student’s entire time at SJV, so there is the potential to receive multiple tokens and rewards throughout their school journey.
We acknowledge and congratulate our Year 3 and Year 4 Students that celebrated their White Token Status with Mr Rodda.

At SJV, we’ll be celebrating Book Week from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, with our Book Week Parade taking place on Wednesday 20th August, just before school starts.
Book an Adventure – Book Week 2025 Poem
Dress as a hero, wild and free —
A pirate, a princess, or climb a tall tree!
Be a brave explorer, off you go,
Or a clever detective solving what you know.
Open a book — your journey starts,
To magic lands and daring parts.
Swim with mermaids, zoom to space,
Find hidden clues or win a race!
Your costume shows who you can be,
In stories filled with mystery.
Each page you turn, a world brand new —
With fun and friends and dreams come true.
So “Book an Adventure” far or near,
There’s magic in the books right here!
This Book Week, take a trip inside —
Adventure’s waiting — come and ride!

ELC News
The ELC children had an amazing Science Week full of exploration and discovery and lots of experiments. We learnt that chemical reactions can occur when we mix some substances together. The Stingrays made bubbling lemon volcanoes and the Turtles blew up balloons with bicarb and vinegar and made bouncy eggs with vinegar. The Lobsters also learnt that some substances don’t mix when they created oil and water artwork. We used coloured water and celery to discover how plants get water and we launched people-powered rockets with our buddies. It’s been a week full of curiosity, questions, and lots of ‘wow’ moments!
Assumption of Mary
The Lobsters have been busy preparing for the Assumption Mass which is being held on Friday. They were deeply engaged as they carefully painted Mary.
Book Week Parade – 20/22 August
Our annual Book Week parade is in Week 5 - Turtles and Stingrays on Wednesday 20 August and Lobsters on Friday 22 August. Children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character.
Hats
As we’ve now reached August, hats are back on for outdoor play in line with our sun safety policy. Please remember to pack a labelled hat each day.

HELP NEEDED
Volunteers are the real HERO'S! If you can spare a Wednesday or Friday to team up with Mel in the canteen, we’d be super grateful.
Mel’s on the lookout for extra hands—without enough volunteers, we’ll need to simplify the menu to keep lunch orders moving so the children can eat and get back to playing and having fun.
If you’re up for it, just drop Mel an email or give her a shout with your availability. Thanks a million for helping out! We appreciate you.
Term_3_2025_Canteen_Roster.pdf Please remember to bring your WWVP- (Working with Vulnerable People) card with you.
