Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to the end of Wk 7. This will be my last newsletter before I take Long Service Leave at the end of next week. I would like to thank everyone for their support of the school this semester and I hope to see everyone at the Trivia Night next week.
Lord: In the midst of winter, when the days are cold and wind can pierce remind us of the warmth of your love. In the midst of winter, when days are short, dawn comes late, and dusk arrives early remind us that in the darkness your light still shines. Amen.

Trivia Night Friday 17th June
At this point in time it looks like we will have enough to move ahead with our Trivia Night scheduled for next week. Having said this, it is not too late to get a table together with friends or buy a ticket and our organisers will find a table for you.
Tell Them from Me – School Improvement Survey Reminder – Access ends next week
This survey was sent out last week. If you have ten minutes to give helpful feedback to the school please click on the emailed link that was send out last week, and using constructive criticism, let us know how we can improve the teaching and learning environment at the school.
It’s Great to Be Back – An unsolicited email from a parent
"It was so lovely to be physically in the school this morning.
So much goes on every day at SJV that really makes an impact on the development of children and their families.
This is what I saw and felt from my very short time in the front office area this morning and also at drop off for our child this morning
I saw Mrs De Rosa at the playground gate welcoming students to school.
When I walked in the office, it was a warm, welcoming and a cosy feel.
I saw our child excited to see their siblings and some of their friends on the photos pinned up at the front entrance.
I saw my younger child directly welcomed by staff members.
Mrs Spackman and I had a chat with her about readiness of children for Kinder. She also spoke directly to my youngest.
I saw two children heading off for the cross country! - They were very excited and they both warmly said hello to me.
I saw my children each being spoken to as individuals by the Principal and I learnt new things about my children during the discussion.
I saw some Year 1 children at the front desk handing over the blue bag and being spoken to so warmly by Mrs Simpson. She knew them both by name.
I saw children well-mannered at the desk and smiling.
I saw a kinder child needing help from Mr Rodda and a support staff member and being cared for appropriately to cater to her needs.
I saw children getting looked after by caring staff in the First Aid room.
I saw Parents (including me) being looked after at the front desk by Mrs Simpson and Mr Rodda, both of them taking time to let me know admin details for school fees.
I saw smiling parents and parents heading through to help on tuck-shop.
I was able to use the front area to quickly chat with a parent relatively new to the school and make some connections and offer support. What a great morning!
X-Country Carnival
A big thank you to all the parents and Mrs Emerson who supported our brave runners yesterday at the carnival. At a balmy 8 degrees the children represented our school proudly. Well done everyone.
God Bless

Gospel Reflection: John 16:12-15
‘I still have many things to say to you, but they would be too much for you now.
But when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth.”
This Sunday marks the return of the liturgical season to Ordinary time, however the next two Sundays are designated as solemnities; special days that call our attention to key mysteries of our faith. This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. This is a feast that invites us to consider what we believe about God, who has revealed Himself to us in the Trinity.
This week’s Gospel comes from words Jesus spoke to His disciples at the end of the Last Supper. We heard last week during Pentecost, Jesus offering assurances to the disciples about the future, telling them that although He was soon to leave them, they will still have a future because of the help He will send them through the Holy Spirit. This week’s Gospel is more focused on the shape that future will take. The disciples of Jesus, which also includes us, cannot not know what the future holds. All we can know is that Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, remains with us, and we do not have to face what lies ahead, alone.

Vinnies Visit
Volunteers from the St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol van visited SJV this morning. Each class was given a short presentation about the work the volunteers do as part of their work with Night Patrol and helped launch the St Vincent de Paul "Winter Appeal". A special lunch order day will be held on June 22 to support the Winter Appeal. We will also be having a free-uniform ‘Winter Woolies’ day in Week 10, where we will ask for donations of supplies needed by the Night Patrol van. More details about both these events will be announced shortly.
Matthew from St Vincent de Paul talking to our students about the Vinnie's Night Patrol Van. Don’t forget to start gathering warm blankets, coats, scarves, gloves, Milo and coffee for week 10 when St John Vianney’s children will make donations to the Winter Appeal.

Two stories from today from 2JB
Harry wrote…..
On Thursday at 10am, 2JB went to the Vinnie’s Van. A night patrol van. It was so cool because there was a kitchen in the back of the van. Fergus and Elsie were helping.
Jonathon wrote……
On Thursday at 10am, 2JB went to see the Vinnie’s Van. Two of us got to pretend to be members and one of us pretended to be a homeless stranger.
The van gives out hot milo, coffee, jackets, blankets and more.

On Thursday at 10am, 2JB went to the Vinnie’s Van. Matthew talked to us about how he helps people who are homeless at night. In the van there are jackets, clothes, sleeping bags, food and drinks. At night, Matthew goes around Canberra in the Vinnie’s Van and helps people who are homeless. He also talked to us about how we can help homeless people by donating clothes and food to Vinnie’s.
Both 5/6P and 5/6J enjoyed working with clay as part of their Visual Arts unit exploring line and texture. Students created patterned tiles to experiment with creating different effects with clay.
