At the end of each term, the notes will be archived and only the last week of the previous term will be visible in the new term. If you are searching for a note, please go back to the archived newsletters and the term that it was sent home in to find the note you are looking for.
Dear SJV Families
Welcome to the beginning of Term 4. I cannot believe how busy this term will be, so please make sure you are checking the school calendar located on our website and the 'For the Calendar - Dates to Remember' section in the newsletter, this will keep you across all the planned fun.
Lord, as we prepare for the coming of a new semester.
Make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.
Thank you for the gift of being able
to rise each day with the assurance that
you walk through it with us.
Thank you for the gifts of creativity and uniqueness,
and the energy to put them to good use.
May all that we are today,
all that we try to do today,
may all our encounters, reflections,
even the frustrations and failings
all be placed in your hands.
May the work we do and the way we do it,
bring new hope, new life, and courage
to all we come in contact with this semester.
We thank you Lord.
School Pick Up and Drop Off
Just a reminder that if you are dropping off or picking children up from school, we have a specific drop off and pick up zone outside of our school hall. Please use this area as it keeps our students safe and eliminates congestion and frustration in our car park. Also, a reminder to those parents who are parking their car, to not park beside a curb that is painted red.
Grandparents Day - Wednesday 23rd October
Next Wednesday we will be celebrating our Grandparent's Day with a mass beginning at 9:30am, followed with class visits where they can complete a fun activity with their grandchild. This is all followed with a free pizza lunch (orders closed today) to share with the children and grandparents, should be a fun day.
Boorowa Carnival - Friday 25th October
We have approximately 40% of our school attending this fun sporting event next Friday. I wish all the children well for their associated sports. A big thank you to Mrs Malpas who has been key in making this event happen.
Community Garden - Save the Date - 29th November
Will be holding an opening ceremony for our new school community garden. More information to follow soon.
Uniform Shop - Tuesday Morning
A reminder that Uniform Shop is open on Tuesday mornings from 8:50am - 9:15am. If you have placed an order in the week prior up until 8:30am on the Tuesday morning then your order should be ready. Unfortunately if you place an order after this time, then your clothing will not be available until the following Tuesday. During the week Jet sometimes can complete an order, however sometimes she cannot. Please be mindful of how busy the Front office can get. Thank you.
Mass seating Arrangements
We always welcome parents and grandparents to our masses. If you attend a Wednesday mass and you would like your child to sit with you, that is absolutely fine, just let them know that you are coming and when they see you, they can move from their class area to be with you. the only exception to this rule would be a special celebration like a Graduation Mass.
Fete - 2nd November
There are only 16 days until the massive school event. We are still looking for volunteers for help on the day, manning Stalls after 12 noon as well as set-up and pack-up. If you can't find the associated notes for this, send an email into the front office and we will put it into the right hands. Our school raffle is a major item for our fund-raising, have you sold your tickets yet? If not see if you can get out amongst your neighbours to support our school. Who knows, they might win $1000!
If you have a spare couple of hours of a Saturday or Sunday to seel raffle tickets at Cooleman Court, email the fete committee and they will be able to get you started.

A message from the Assistant Principal and Mrs D's "Thought of the Week"
Celebrating Children's Week - Grand Friends Day - 23rd October 2024
We are excited to invite all SJV Grand Friends to share some time with us. Grand Friends are invited to join us for Mass beginning at 9.30am. Following Mass our special guests will move to classrooms for a 'classroom' activity with children.
From about 11.15am, children will meet with their Grandfriend/s for a shared lunch (Pre-ordered Pizza). We are hoping it’s a sunny day for a shared picnic and some outside time. We will have coffee and tea available for adults.
Playground Improvements
Towards the end of last term, we welcomed the installation of additions to the sensory space. The children have used these new additions with enthusiasm. We will hopefully continue to add to this well used area of the playground.
School Uniform
Term 4 sees the return of our summer uniform. Our usual change over from winter to summer is 2 weeks.
Please make sure that your child/children are by week 3 wearing their summer school uniform. Stock clothing and hats are available from our Uniform shop.Families Leaving St John Vianney's
As we begin preparations for 2025 it is important for the school to have accurate enrolment projections. We would ask you to contact the front office if your family will be moving interstate, or has made the decision to choose another school for your child in 2025.

Sacraments 2025
The Parish team has been busy planning for next year’s Sacramental program. Invitations will be sent out shortly to potential candidates and their families with important information about what the program will involve. As always, any questions or feedback about the Sacramental program is best directed to the Parish via email: sacramentalola@cg.org.au
Gospel Reflection: Mark 10:35-45
In this Gospel, James and John ask Jesus for special places beside Him, but Jesus teaches them a deeper lesson. He explains that true greatness comes from serving others, not seeking power or recognition. As a community, this reminds us to encourage our children to think about how they can help and care for others. By showing kindness, including everyone, and putting others first, we follow Jesus' example. As families, we can talk with our children about what it means to serve and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.
School Masses Term 4
As a school, we regularly attend the Wednesday morning 9:30 am Mass at St John Vianney’s Church. The choir sings at this Mass and sometimes our students have a role in other parts of the celebration. Parents and friends of our school are welcome to join us alongside parishioners at this Mass. Dates the school will be attending Mass this term are as follows:
Wednesday 23rd October: Grandfriends’ Day Mass, Time: 9:30am (led by Kinder)
Monday 11th November: Prayer Celebration (Remembrance Day), 10:45am (led by Year 3)
Wednesday 13th November: Parish Mass, 9:30am (led by Year 1)
Thursday 12th December: Year 6 Graduation Mass, time TBC
Hygiene Station
We are excited to announce that our SJV Hygiene Station is now up and running in our front office area, and we are welcoming donations of new and sealed hygiene products starting in Term 4!
We are collecting items such as:
- Oral hygiene products (toothpaste, toothbrushes)
- Deodorant, body spray, and perfume
- Body wash and soap
- Hair care items (shampoo, conditioner)
- Face wash and skincare products
- Moisturiser and hand sanitiser
- Sanitary products
- Toiletries bags
These donations will be distributed through the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Canberra Goulburn, ensuring they reach those in our local community who need them the most.
If you’re wondering how you can contribute, here are a few simple ideas:
Planning a holiday? If you visit a hotel and don’t need the complimentary toiletries, consider bringing them home to donate to our hygiene station. Please ensure they are sealed.
Shopping for yourself? Next time you’re buying a new toothbrush or bottle of shampoo, why not pick up an extra one to help someone in need?
Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.

Community Corner: Sideshow Alley
SIDESHOW ALLEY - supporting Catholic Mission and Global School Partners.
On Wednesday 23rd of October, Year 5 and 6 will be holding their annual Sideshow Alley to raise funds for Catholic Mission and Global School Partners to support our partner school LynPark Academy in Kenya.
To help assist with transactions on the day, we are asking for students to prepay to receive tokens that they can spend at the stalls.
Tokens can be purchased from tomorrow morning. Look for Mrs Malpas in the playground from 8:30am. Tokens can also be purchased next Monday and Tuesday - same time/same place!! We are asking if you could contribute to this fun activity between $2-$4 as we are mindful of how many expenses are occurring at this time.
Each store has assigned a certain number of tokens per purchase or game at the store. 1 token is equivalent to 10 cents.
Stores cost between 20 cents (1 token) and $1 (10 tokens).
Classroom teachers will be giving the pre-bought tokens to the students for them to spend on the day of Sideshow Alley.
Last year Sideshow Alley was a tremendous success and we're excited to keep the fun going for all participants.
Here's a snapshot of what the Year 5 and 6 students created last year. We're confident that Year 5 and 6 in 2024 will also bring plenty of enjoyable activities for everyone at the school !!
