Science Week 2024
..... photos to follow .....
Eight chick eggs and 4 duck eggs arrived in kinder Monday week ago. Our Science unit this term is living and non living things and this week we have been talking about external features. We know that some of the external features are called combs, wattles, wings, webbed feet, claws, down, feathers and beaks.
Many staff and children of staff have been making the journey to the kinder room for cuddles and to chat about the antics of these cute little additions to our SJV family. (only temporarily) !!
The names of the chickens are Zorro, Brownie, Inky, Cookies and Cream and two unnamed (two are also still in the incubator). The ducks are called Huey, Duey, Louie and Donald.
The kinders have truly enjoyed the time they have spent with the cuties.
Happy Birthday Everly H, Finn N
A huge thank you to St John Vianney’s for hosting our Stingray class for Science week. The children had a great day playing with buddies and engaging in science experiments and activities. SJV also provided science showbags so the children can continue to explore various science activities at home.
Father’s Day Breakfast and Classroom Visits – Friday 30 August
We invite all Fathers, Step-Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles and special friends to attend our Fathers Day Celebration on Friday 30 August beginning with breakfast at 8.15am. Guests are then welcome to visit your child/children’s classroom/s, from 9.00am – 10.00am. For catering purposes RSVP is required by COB Monday 26 August.
Click the link to RSVP for the breakfast.

The Book Week Parade is on Wednesday 21 August. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. The parade will be held in the morning outside in the primary school carpark near the church (weather permitting) and families are welcome to come along to watch. The Stingrays dress-up day will be on Tuesday 20 August.
Book Fair
The library is having a Book Fair in Week 5. We are pleased to partner with The Book Cow in Kingston again this year to offer a “Books Only” Book Fair to our students of all ages. Sales will be after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 5pm. EFTPOS available.
Parenting Workshops with Lael Stone

They are holding a Saturday event about managing the big feelings and behaviour of young children, and a full day Sunday couples workshop about helping parents to get on the same page with their parenting.

..The theme for Book Week 2024 is "Reading is Magic"..
Throughout the month of August, community organisations, schools and libraries around the country will take part in Children’s Book Week, celebrating the joys of reading for pleasure with classroom activities, competitions, storytelling sessions and, of course, the popular school book parade.
Reading for pleasure has a range of benefits for children and young people. Reading can enhance literacy skills, and has a positive direct effect on academic reading motivation and achievement in later childhood and adolescence. 74% of children agree that reading helps them understand the world better, and 86% of children (age 6-17) said they loved being read books aloud at home or liked it a lot – the main reason being because it is a special time with parents.
At SJV, we will celebrate our book week Monday 26th - Friday 30th August and our Book Week parade is Thursday 29th August before we go into school.
Book Week Costume ideas to make
Some students who attend SJV also play basketball for the Tuggeranong Vikings Basketball Club. We extend an invitation to any students from SJV, who may be interested in playing basketball, to join them for the upcoming summer basketball season.
