Merit Award Term 1 Week 4
Class Parents 2024
The year again has started busy with many events already planned - Senior Camp, the school Swimming Carnival and Parent Information Night and Welcome BBQ, just to name a few. These events are often easier and are more enjoyable with parent involvement. Therefore, we are searching for 2024 class contact for each class at SJV. Thank you to Sonia Taflaga and Kylie Lloyd who have taken on the class parent contact role for Year 2 and Year 4 respectively.
Please consider undertaking this role either on your own or with another class parent. It does not require much time and it helps bring people together and build our SJV community. Please fill in the form below and return to school if you are interested, or email your details to peter.rodda@cg.catholic.edu.au
Roles of a class contact may include all or some of the items listed below:
- Collate and distribute a contact list of parents and students in their child’s class (if they chose to participate), this often helps with organising children’s parties, sporting teams and play dates. Eg – facebook and What’s app groups.
- Organise class gatherings – this could be with or without children (this is a great way to socialise and usually occurs a couple of times a year but of course could be less or more)
- If required help SJV focus groups find class organisers and\or participants for events and fundraisers.
- Be a point of contact for any parent and families new to the school or class queries.
Thanks for taking the time to consider building our community.

Library Borrowing
Thank you to all the students who borrow books from our amazing library and to the families that share in the reading of these books at home.
It’s so wonderful to hear stories of big brothers and sisters reading to you or get members of the family and adults reading chapter books to their children (and loving the books too).
I absolutely love the requests for new books and the next book in a favourite series! Let’s continue to work together to encourage a love of reading!!
Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge
Students are encouraged to read as many picture books as they can between now and the end of the term (this is especially for the bigger kiddies of our school, we have an awesome picture book for in the older reader section of our library)! This can be an adult reading to a child, a child reading to an adult or taking it in turns to read together :) Chief Minister's Reading Challenge
ELC NEWS
Happy Birthday Oliver S
The Stingray and Turtle classes attended their first liturgy in the church this week. We talked about the importance of forgiveness and showing love to each other even when it is difficult. We talked about forgiving others when they do the wrong thing just like God forgives us.
Lids4Kids
Next week Lids4Kids are coming to talk to us about the importance of recycling and sustainability. We will look at all the things that can be made from recycled plastic lids and we will do a fun colour sorting activity. The ELC will be a collecting plastic lids from milk bottles for recycling. Please bring along all your lids from home to add to our sorting net which will be set up in the ELC foyer.
Library, Arts and Fruit Shop
With our Library and Arts lessons on Wednesday mornings, we will now hold ELC Fruit Shop on Tuesdays (odd weeks) and Thursday (even weeks). Please continue to bring a piece of fruit for your child to eat each day to assist your child to develop healthy eating habits.
Project Compassion
During Lent, we are learning about the importance of doing kind things for others. We will participate in Project Compassion, which raises funds to help people living in poverty in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world. ELC families are invited to donate. Project Compassion boxes are located on the prayer table in each classroom.
St Jude’s Fete
The St Jude’s Fete is on Saturday 16th March. Donations to the cake stall, plants or ‘treasures’ are very welcome. Head to the Qkr! App (in the Community Council menu) to pre-purchase Fete Mates, Ride Wristbands, Showbags and Raffle tickets. Check the St Jude’s newsletter for more information.
This year the ELC will be hosting the Hairspray Stall. Many hands make light work, so we’d love for you to get involved. Please go to volunteersignup.org/WRJ4K to volunteer an hour of your time to help make our fete great!
