An enormous THANK YOU to all the students and families that have sent in second hand books over the last few weeks for the GREAT Book Swap. 

Students are invited to bring in a gold coin to their Library classes next week (week 7) and purchase a second hand book (or two).  All funds raised will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and provide new books for children in outback communities.

All remaining books will go to the SJV Fete Book Stall.

You still have time to go through your book shelves and send in more books!  Your support for this easy fundraiser is very appreciated.

Scholastic Book Club Issue 6

Book Club Issue 6 was handed out this week.  Student orders are due in by COB Wednesday 11 September (week 8) to allow for delivery before the end of term.

ELC NEWS

               

                                     

We finished off Book Week last Friday with the annual Book Week Parade.  This year’s theme was ‘Reading is my secret power’ so the children enjoyed dressing up as super heroes and characters from books.  Our ELC educators were various characters from the Mr Men and Little Miss books.  Can you guess which ones? 

ELC Holiday Care – The ELC Holiday Care Program will run during the October school holidays.  The program will run from from 8am to 5:30pm from Monday 30 September to Friday 11 October (minus the public holiday on Monday 7^th).  The program is full of fun and engaging activities and excursions.  Information and booking sheets have been emailed and are available from the ELC.

Hats on –When UV reaches 3 the children are required to wear hats outside.  Please ensure your child brings a hat to school with their name clearly labelled on it.

Fathers Day Stall – The Fathers Day stall will be held tomorrow, Friday 31 August. The children are invited to bring along a few dollars in a labelled envelope to purchase a gift for dad.

Toys – Many children are bringing home toys to school and we strongly discourage this. We have many toys and activities at the ELC to engage the children, so there is no need to bring in personal items. Home toys are causing many disruptions to class time and we are asking for your help to ensure your child respects this rule.

9 WEEKS TO GO!

We need the SJV community to get involved to make sure it is the Best day ever @ the SJV fete! The funds raised are for the benefit of the school and our children. The fete also showcases our school to the community.

Volunteers needed
So far 25 out of 124 families have come on board for the fete. Please volunteer your time and let us know if you have a preference for a task or a stall. Support for the raffle coordination or logistics coordination is still required.
