Welcome to Week 9 Term 2
When I look at the lives of the saints, I have sometimes asked myself what it means to be holy - For me the short prayer below is a great definition of what it can possibly mean in the modern world today.
Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share God's joy with all you meet, especially your family. Be holy.

Compass Parent Portal – Student Semester Report Access
You should already have access to our SJV Parent Portal in Compass. This portal will allow parents to receive information about your child’s school and their progress. It will give you access to school reports, messages, classroom blogs and the ability to submit attendance notes. The portal is accessible via the web and the Compass School Manager App (via the App store on your device).
This Parent Portal will make engaging with your child’s school faster, easier and more secure. Instructions on how to register and Login Id's were sent to all parents last week via email.
An email will be sent out tomorrow advising you of when you can access your child’s reports.
School Swimming Wk 10 Term 4 - Parent Survey
There has been a very large response by our school families on the topic of school swimming and approximately eighty-seven percent of parents are in favour of the program, with thirteen against. Even some of the people against saw merit in the program, it just was not for them due to specific reasons.
Therefore, the school will move ahead with this initiative and will schedule one week of intensive swimming at the end of Term 4. This will be an ongoing program and more details will follow in Terms 3 and 4.

Term 2 Week 9
Gospel Reflection - Mark 4:35-41
The Gospel this week tells the story of Jesus calming the storm. The following reflection is from Sunday Connection by Loyola Press:
“This Gospel is a metaphor for our lives. We are in the boat, the storms of life are raging around us, and like the disciples, we may believe that Jesus is unconcerned, or “sleeping.” We hope that we will be as familiar with Jesus as his disciples. If we feel that Jesus is sleeping, are we comfortable enough to wake Jesus and present him with our needs? Jesus does not chide his disciples for waking him. Instead he chides them for their lack of faith, for their lack of perspective. When we bring our worries to God in prayer, we might just begin to learn to see things from God's perspective.”
First Eucharist Celebration
Congratulations to Julius and Carmen who will celebrate their First Eucharist at this Sunday’s Mass. We ask that you keep all our candidates in your prayers. A reminder that students who have celebrated their First Eucharist over the past few weeks will be presented with their certificates at Monday morning’s assembly on June 21st.
Christian Meditation
All classes enjoyed working with Helen Bramanathan from Catholic Education this week on developing their practice of Christian Meditation. In addition to her work with Catholic Education, Helen is a current classroom teacher who is passionate about working with teachers and students to encourage them to develop a closer relationship with God through regular meditation. We are grateful to Helen for spending time with us this week and look forward to sharing our progress with her.
Year 5/6 Mission Projects
This term, our Year 5/6 students have been exploring corporal and spiritual works of mercy. The final part of this unit of work had the students working in groups to come up with a small mission project of their own connected to an act of mercy. Over the next week, some of the groups will be collecting donations of the following items as part of their project:
- Warm clothes (e.g. coats, jackets, gloves, scarves, beanies)
- Sleeping bags and blankets
- Sanitary items
- Wet wipes/Baby wipes
- Toilet paper
- Hand sanitiser
These items will be given to organisations who will make sure they reach people who need them most. Clothing items, sleeping bags and blankets can be previously loved but need to be clean and in good condition. There will be baskets around the school where items can be placed but you are also welcome to drop any donations into the front office.

Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.
