Welcome to the end of Term 4 2019.
The only quote I have for you this week is –
‘Merry Christmas. Have a happy faith-filled holiday and travel back to us safely.’ –
Mr Rodda
I would also like to thank our whole community, parents, teachers and students, for their hard work and support in what has been an extremely busy, but fulfilling year. All the people at our school are the bricks, mortar and hands that helps build SJV. It are these relationships that make SJV such a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Christmas Carols
Thank you to Mrs Mullamphy and the SCC who did a wonderful job with our carols last night. Mrs Mullamphy had a contingent of 70 children who were well versed in bell ringing, percussion and singing. Our SCC cooked a great sausage sizzle and the sense of community was everywhere. Thanks to all the families who were able to make our carols such a great night.
Uniform Shop
The uniform Shop will be open Thursday January 30th 2020 from 8:30-9:30am and 2:30-3:30pm. Keep in mind that we have a fully stocked uniform shop, which has all your needs for summer and winter uniforms all year round.
Also a reminder that if you are purchasing new shoes next year at The Athletes Foot in Woden, please mention our schools name. The Athletes Foot sponsors many of the local schools in the area, ours included, with a small rebate given back to every school for every item purchased at their store.
1st day of School
The first day of school for all children is Monday 3rd February 2020. The children will wear full summer uniform.
Have a fabulous and safe Christmas

Learning Journey - A message from the Assistant Principal
with Nina De Rosa
Students had the privilege of working with Harry Laing, yesterday, a poet, children’s author, creative writing teacher and comic performer.
His published works include: Thirst (1993) and Backbone (2010) and my first book as a children’s author is Shoctopus–poems to grip you (2015) a book of illustrated poems for 6-12 yr olds.
Harry has the ability to get people writing whatever their age and stage. Staff were amazed and delighted by the quality of writing in the workshop yesterday. I hope you all enjoy reading a small selection:CURTAIN:
I’m sick of looking at all your disgusting faces.
You really are all disgraces
You are always tugging at me
And are always throwing slugs at me!
I really don’t get why I open and close;
I’d rather be used for sunning clothes!

Piano
I’m so bored. I’m so tired of little kids trying
to play me but failing so miserably.
But that’s not the worst part they slam their fingers on my
keys so hard that I’m surprised I’m not broken.
When they're not playing me I dream.
I dream about being played by a pianist that presses
so gently that he barely makes a sound, and plays so
beautifully that I’m proud to be his piano.
But it’s just a dream.

A Message from School Community Council Chair
From Rebecca McMahon
sjvcommunitycouncil@gmail.com
On behalf of the School Community Council, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their time and contributions throughout the year. It has been wonderful to see how much our children have grown and flourished over the last 11 months, something that wouldn’t be as possible without the support of each and every one of you.
I would also like to thank our school community for opening their arms to new families like mine. I have felt so welcomed and supported as both a new parent to the school and in the position of Chair.
It is with sadness that we farewell those families leaving our school at the end of the year, but what an adventure they have ahead!
As we look forward to 2020, I am sure you share in my excitement at the prospect of welcoming new families to our fantastic school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for a wonderful year at the ELC, your continuous support has been greatly appreciated. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Acting Director this year and look forward to being back in the full time (Turtle) ELC classroom in 2020.
I understand this is an incredibly busy time for you all, could I please ask that you take 5 minutes to complete the ELC parent survey and return it via email or in hard copy. The survey was emailed and copies are available at the ELC. Your input is truly valued and will help guide decisions for the ELC in 2020.
Lost property – Please take the time to check the lost property basket located under the sign-in desk. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the year at the end of this week.
All of the ELC staff wish you and your families a safe and Merry Christmas.

Our Santa and Mrs Claus Raffle Winner is...............
Charlize. Congratuations to Charlize and we hope she will enjoy this beautiful festive decoration for many years to come. Thank you for all those who entered the raffle and the wonderful festive donation from a member of the SJV community.Wow what a year of fun we have had at Playgroup with our friends.
Each fortnight we have enjoyed each other’s company, played games, listened to stories, danced, and participated in art or craft. The children and parents all have formed strong friendships. We are so lucky to have shared so much together throughout the year. Here are some of the activities we have enjoyed doing together:
. Dinosaur jelly dig, water play to see if our handmade boats would float!
. Nature discovery walk then played on the Sensory Garden whilst having a picnic with our Teddy Bears!
. Painted with paint, shaving cream, traced ourselves, made finger puppets, snowmen, and rainbows, even did some cooking and learnt to brush our teeth!
We have explored, experienced, grown and enjoyed each other’s company. Thank you to all the beautiful families who have supported our wonderful Playgroup each week. Remember Playgroup starts first week of term, 5th February 2020! Looking forward to another exciting year in 2020.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
