Dear SJV Families
Welcome to the end of Wk 9.
We thank you for everything we have already received. Guide us still, we pray. Through your Spirit lead us in all areas of our life. Grant us the Spirit, who can illumine our hearts to help us find new courage and new strength and new recognition of the truth
CyberSafety - Principal's Thoughts
It will be of no surprise that children face challenges with the on-line environment. These challenges usually revolve around content viewed and how students interact with each other or websites that they visit.
Sometimes children can be mean, say the wrong thing in a chat, swear whilst playing on-line games and not always being a responsible digital citizen. Children can also be on the receiving end of these poor practices.
The internet is an amazing place, but I ask parents to check in on their children (I am sure you already do) and remind them of your parental expectations and just to see if they are okay..
Half of our students will be in high school within the next 3 years, and if they have good practice now, this will help them in more challenging times.
I have attached a link to an article that may help parents with a conversation if you are looking for somewhere to start a discussion. I will be placing a modified version of this email in our newsletter today for easy reference.

Celebrating St. Matthew’s Feast Day – September 21st
On Sunday, we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Matthew, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles and the writer of the first Gospel in the New Testament.
St. Matthew’s story reminds us that everyone is welcome to follow Jesus, no matter who they are or what they’ve done in the past. Before meeting Jesus, Matthew was a tax collector – a job that many people didn’t like back then. But when Jesus saw Matthew and said, “Follow me,” Matthew got up, left everything behind, and became one of His most faithful followers.
St. Matthew went on to share Jesus’ teachings with many people, and his Gospel still helps us learn about Jesus today.
Fun Fact: St. Matthew’s symbol is a winged man or angel, showing how he wrote about Jesus as both human and divine. Let’s remember St. Matthew’s courage and faith, and try to be followers of Jesus in our own lives—by being kind, honest, and loving to those around us.
Spring Holidays: A Time to Connect, Create Memories, and Grow Well-Being
As spring blossoms around us, it’s a wonderful time for families to enjoy holidays together! The warmer weather and longer days give us the perfect chance to connect with each other, make special memories, and take care of our well-being.
Spending time with your children during the holidays helps build strong family bonds. Whether it’s playing outside, gardening, or simply sharing stories over a meal, these moments help children feel loved and secure.
Spring is also a great time for creating lasting memories. You might go on picnics, visit parks, or explore new places in nature. These experiences help children learn and grow, and they’ll remember these happy times for years to come!
Taking care of our well-being is just as important. Fresh air, gentle exercise, and time away from screens help children feel happier and healthier. Encourage your little ones to try new activities like biking, hiking, or even just running around in the sunshine.
Fun Spring Activities to Try:
-
Nature Scavenger Hunt: Look for flowers, birds, bugs, and colorful leaves.
-
Plant a Garden: Grow flowers, vegetables, or herbs together.
-
Picnic Time: Pack some snacks and enjoy a meal outside.
-
Art in Nature: Collect natural items to make crafts or drawings.
Mindfulness Exercises for Kids:
-
Flower Breathing: Imagine smelling a beautiful flower—take a deep breath in through your nose and slowly blow it out through your mouth.
-
Listening Walk: Go outside and listen carefully to all the sounds you can hear—birds, wind, footsteps. Talk about what you noticed.
-
Gratitude Tree: Draw a tree and write or draw things you’re thankful for on the leaves.
Remember, the best gift you can give your child is your time and attention. These spring holidays are a perfect chance to relax, recharge, and enjoy the simple joys of being together.
