Welcome to Week 3 everyone
Last week I attended mass at SJV instead of my home parish. Fr Michael said something in his sermon that resonated with me –
‘Whilst we may lose signal sometime for our phone or devices, we never lose our Wi-Fi connection with God. God is always there, we just make the call and prayer is the way to do it.’
Something to remember when life hits us with adversity and we are wondering where to turn to.
School Fete – 2 Days to Go
Thank you to everyone who has pitched in one way or another in preparation for our major school fundraiser for 2019. Special thanks of course goes to our wonderful coordinator Jade McGrath and her team of volunteers.
The last and most important thing that we need for the Fete is …………….. YOU! Obviously, we need everyone turning up on Saturday ready to be part of the community.
Mission Mass & Sideshow Alley
What a wonderful job the Year 6 children did in making Side Show Alley a success for our students and raising money for the missions. Just over $500 was raised for charity with an enormous amount of fun generated in the process. A true win-win for all.
School Banking Volunteers Still Needed
After many years looking after the school banking, both our Banking volunteers moving on to different things at the end of the year.
Is there anyone in the school community that would like to take on this role?
It takes about 45 minutes per week, and if the role were shared between 2 or 3 people, this would only be once every 2 or 3 weeks. Banking usually comes into the school on Thursday and is completed by Friday afternoon; however, this could be changed if another day is more suitable. The bank has a coordinator who provides support and a very helpful help desk for ongoing support.
It would be great to hear from anyone who is interested, so we can get you registered and we can spend a bit of time showing you the ropes. Please give us a call if you have any questions – we’ll be happy to have a chat, otherwise, please send a note in with your contact details if you are interested in taking on the role and we’ll be in touch…
Thanks

We are proud to be a Fresh Tastes graduate!
Our school has been involved in Fresh Tastes since 2016 and the results are great! We’ve had a positive shift in our food and drink environment and culture.
We were recognised for our achievements by accepting a certificate and a vertical garden gift from the ACT Government Fresh Tastes team.
We want to thank all students, parents and staff who have been driving forward activities to make healthy foods and drinks a bigger part of every day school life.

Catholic Schools Netball
Congratulations to our three teams that representedSJVV at the last Catholic Schools Netball Carnival. Three teams were entered into the competition and two of the teams, Year 5 and Yr. 2/3, were undefeated and will receive medals for their efforts at Monday’s assembly.
School Position – Volunteers needed
We are looking for a Pastoral Care Contact forSJVV for 2020. The responsibilities of this role mainly revolve around being a conduit for our Parent Contact Network as well as keeping the school informed if there is a parent that needs the communities help. This is not an onerous role, but a very important one. If you find it difficult to get to school to help for activities like Working Bees, this could be the position for you.
Have a great week.

Learning Corner - A Message from the Assistant Principal
On the first of November every year, the Church recalls the example, witness, and prayer of the holy women and men who have been identified by the Church as Saints. These saints are more than just role models; they are family members with whom we continue to share relation, in a bond of prayer, called the Communion of Saints. Every year when celebrating All Saints Day, the Gospel we proclaim recalls for us Jesus' teaching about happiness, the Beatitudes.
The Beatitudes can be understood as a framework for Christian living. Saints are people who lived the spirit of the Beatitudes as Jesus lived. On this day, we too are challenged to model our lives on the spirit and promises of the Beatitudes.
This week as a family, name and tell the story of your favourite saints. Together prepare a list of some of the traits these people have in common (generosity, courage, prayerfulness, and so on) After preparing this list, identify how the attitudes described in the Beatitudes are reflected in the lives of the saints and people you named.
A HUGE congratulations to our school community, who, led by our Year 6 students, raised OVER $500 for Sister Stan and the Narazeth Home for Children in Ghana. This money will help to continue the education of children who have been abandoned due to their differing special needs.
A big congratulations to the following students:
Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.

The ELC celebrated a special mass dedicated to Ms Candy who passed away one year ago today. Ms Candy was an educator at our ELC since it opened in 2014 and remains a very special part of the ELC. The tree at the front of the ELC was planted last year to remember Candy and today after mass Fr Michael also blessed the new plaque in her memory. We are very thankful for the time we spent with Mrs Candy. Please continue to keep her family in your prayers.
ELC Tea towels – Misprinted tea towels (with the primary school logo rather than the ELC logo) are available from the ELC for $5 each. These will make a great gift for Christmas!
Walkathon – Thank you to those parents who were able to join us on our Walk-a-thon. Sponsorship money can be sent in cash or paid on Qkr.
ELC Orientation Day – The ELC will be holding Orientation Day for 2020 on Wednesday 13 November. Please note that parents/guardians are responsible for taking and collecting children. ELC children not attending St Jude’s in 2020 should come to the ELC as normal. This will be a uniform free day for all ELC children.
ELC Fees – Fee statements for Weeks 5 and 6 were emailed today. As we are approaching the end of the year, prompt payment of fees would be appreciated.

FETE WEEK IS FINALLY HERE! RAIN OR SHINE!
Volunteers and Donations
Many thanks again to our wonderful volunteers. If you haven't received the email which contains the roster and important information about logistics for fete day, please get in touch at sjvfete@gmail.com.
The SJV fete relies on volunteers and donations from SJV families and friends and we can't thank you enough for your efforts towards making the fete a success in the interests of the school and ultimately the students.
All SJV families, teachers and friends are invited to come to the Labor Club at Stirling after the fete (is all packed up!). Tables have been booked from 5.30/6.00pm as many of you may not feel like cooking at home.
Mega cash raffle: Please return all sold and unsold tickets (and money) to the front office. It is very important that all tickets are accounted for. And best of luck to those who have purchased a ticket or more.
Cakes or scones: These can be dropped off to the hall on Friday or on Saturday morning.
Fete Hands and Ride Passes: These will be sent home in school bags on Thursday or Friday. Email us at sjvfete@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Donations for prizes: Any last minute donations of blocks of chocolate for the coin toss, vouchers, beer, wine, tombola or hamper items will still be gratefully received!
Marquees: If you have a marquee handy and can spare it for fete day that would be great!
