Opening Message from Assistant Principal
"I PRAY THAT GOD, THE SOURCE OF HOPE, WILL FILL YOU COMPLETELY WITH JOY AND PEACE BECAUSE YOU TRUST IN HIM. THEN YOU WILL OVERFLOW WITH CONFIDENT HOPE THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT." Romans 15:13
Confirmation
We wish all the students in our Parish who are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation over the weekend a memorable and powerful experience. We keep them and their families in our Prayers.
R U OK?
This year in the build-up to R U OK?Day we’re encouraging everyone to Trust the Signs, Trust your Gut & Ask R U OK?
We want everyone to feel confident they know the signs someone might need support by listening to what they’re saying, seeing what they’re doing or knowing what’s going on in their life. Whenever you notice a change, no matter how small, we want you to trust your gut and start an R U OK? conversation. All classes spoke about the meaning of today and the importance to always check in on our friends.

The Great Book Swap for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation
Thank you to all the students and families at SJV for their generous support last week for the Great Book Swap. The students really enjoyed picking out a bargain book or two!
The students raised a fantastic $252.00 which will help gift 35,000 new books for children in remote Indigenous communities.
It would be appreciated if the students who took a book home last week and still need to make a donation, please bring in a gold coin to give to Ms Heath.
All remaining books will be passed on to the Fete book stall.

The Turtles and Stingrays had an exciting Bus Wash excursion on Monday 9 September. They learned about public transport and about travelling safely. They went to the bus depot, where the buses go to be repaired, washed and to rest when they’re not on the road. They drove past the police station and the fire station and the they played lots of games along the way. Parents, be prepared for endless games of ‘spotto’ and some driving advice from the backseat when you’re out in your car from now on! The Lobsters are looking forward to their bus adventure tomorrow.
Floriade – The ELC children have be busy painting their gnomes to send to Gnome Knoll at Floriade. Gnomes are $12 each and support the Rotary Club of Canberra. This excursion cost has been added to your statement. The Stingrays will take a bus trip to explore Floriade (and visit their gnomes) on Monday 16 September and the Turtles and Lobsters will go on Thursday 19 September. Permission notes are on the school website. Parent helpers are very welcome. Please contact your class teacher if you are able to come along.
ELC Holiday Care – The ELC Holiday Care Program will run during the October school holidays. The program will run from from 8am to 5:30pm from Monday 30 September to Friday 11 October (minus the public holiday on Monday 7th). The program is full of fun and engaging activities and excursions. Information and booking sheets are on the school website and bookings are due next Thursday 19 September.
Transition to School Parent Forum – As we quickly approach the end of Term 3, the reality of transitioning to Kindergarten starts to become more real. A Transition to School Parents Forum is being held on Tuesday 17 September at 7pm at the Hedley Beare Centre in Stirling. To register (or request a podcast) email earlylearning@actparents.org.au. More information is available from the ELC.
ELC Fees – The final fees for Term 3 are due tomorrow, Friday 13 September. Could you please check your accounts and ensure that all term fees are up to date. Please note that Holiday Care Bookings will not be accepted from families with outstanding fees.

Canteen Volunteers Needed
The canteen is in desperate need of some volunteers, in particular on Wednesday's for this term. We also need volunteers for Term 4.
If you can only spare a couple of hours, that would be fantastic. If you have little ones, they are very welcome to come along.
Please contact the front office or fill in the canteen volunteer form to let us know you are able to help and when.
SJV are now using the Schoolzine app, SZapp. This app can be used for absentee and contact forms and it streamlined with the SJV webpages and newsletter.
SZapp is easy to download and and it a great way to keep in touch with all that is happening in our SJV community. Please take 2 minutes to download this SZapp and be connected with us.

7 WEEKS TO GO!
Volunteers needed
So far 29 out of 124 families have come on board for the fete. Thank you to those who have volunteered already! However, we really need more volunteers to help on stalls and setting and packing up.
Get in touch at sjvfetegmaill.com, let the front office know, or chat to LucyOhlmus or JadeMcGrath
Mega cash raffle
The tickets for the mega cash raffle have gone out to families this week. It would be absolutely wonderful if families could sell at least one book of raffle tickets as it is a significant fundraising activity for the school. Of course, there is the major incentive of being the first or second prize winner, or you could pick up a fantastic incentive prize for selling tickets.
Donations
Thanks for the donations so far! We will now move to designated drop off days in the lead up to the fete (so please, no more drop-offs at the front office).
Sunday 13 October: 2.00-4.00pm
Tuesday 22 October 3.10-4.00pm
Sunday 27 October 2.00-4.00pm
Entertainment
Would any of the children like to demonstrate their talents at the fete - karate, magic, gymnastics, singing?
Sponsors
Big thanks to our wonderful sponsors!! Please show these businesses your support. If your business can support in any way we would love to hear from you.
