It was great to be interviewed by Patrick Bell from ABC News last week, speaking to SJV's strong NAPLAN results which placed SJV second in all ACT Catholic Primary schools.
If you missed my 3 seconds of fame and the interview which featured Mrs Malpas and Year 5/6J, the segment (23/9) can be found on ABC iView for a short amount of time. As a school community we should be very proud of our results.

Book Week
It was great to see the buzz about books so evident at SJV last week. Thanks to all the students, staff and families who got into the spirit of things, especially by participating in the lunchtime activities and dress up day. I extend a special thanks to Mrs Spackman, our wonderful Teacher Librarian, for all of her planning and organisation.
Farewell - Mrs Perryman
It is with sadness that we have accepted Mrs Perryman’s resignation from St John Vianney's as her family relocates overseas for the next three years.
It was Mrs Perryman’s intention to remain at SJV for at least five years, but this current opportunity for her family has arisen and is too good to refuse.
Nicki has already indicated that she would love to return to SJV, and we would love to see her back here if the opportunity presents itself. I am sure that you will join with me in wishing Nicki and her family the very best with their new adventure.
TechOne
Please find an update on our rollover to a new finance system being used at SJV. This has implications for each SJV family. I also ask that families are patient with Front Office Staff as we all learn to manage the changes.

Rockstar School Disco - 8th September
I look forward to seeing everyone 'partying like rockstars' next Friday. We will need to dust off our vinyls, wash our outrageous wigs, pop on some bright glasses, tune our guitars and shine our dancing shoes! I wonder if we will spot any 'celebrities'. The fun begins at 5.30pm in the school Hall until 7.30pm.
School Fete Saturday 4th November
Excitement is already building with our Fete coming up later in the year. Please set it aside in your calendar, knowing it promises to be a fun-filled family day. (Of course if you can also help in the lead-up, you can share in the pride of contributing to our great SJV community, the team would love to hear from you. Please contact them at sjvfete@gmail.com.)
Repeat Notice - Class Contacts 2024
Because of the Pandemic, we stopped our Parent Contact Network due to all the isolation rules, unfortunately we did not get our program off the ground quickly enough for this year.
We are calling on parents to be a class contact for their child's class for 2024.
The idea of these contacts is that you are a first point of parent contact within the school. This means you would send an email out to a new family when they arrive and be someone who can help parents if they are unsure of a procedure or need help due to a family circumstance. You can then let the school know. You also might organise 1-2 events throughout the year for interested parents for their child’s class. This could take the form of a Mums or Dads night, a play in the park event or a ride at Stromlo for class students, it could even be a game of soccer on the school oval after classes end for the day.
If you think you would enjoy this role, please contact the Front Office and speak to Jeanette.
Repeat Notice - SCC Open Meeting - Monday 4th September 6pm
This meeting is a chance to have your voice heard as well as listen to possible directions our council may take in helping the school provide a quality educational environment for your child. Attached to this newsletter is the flyer and if you could please use the RSVP provided, this will help for catering and child care purposes. Invite_to_Community_Council_Meeting_Monday_4th_Sept.pdf
Father's Day
This weekend, we celebrate Father’s Day. We honour not just dads, but grandfathers, big brothers, uncles – anyone who has fulfilled a fatherly role in our lives.
We remember the exemplary role model and patron saint of fathers, St Joseph. St Joseph was a man of compassion and caring, who possessed an unwavering faith in God. He was a man who loved and protected his family – not dissimilar to the men we will honour on this day in our own lives!
On Father’s Day, let us ask St Joseph for his intercession, on behalf of all dads and that his holy example continue to be an inspiration to all fathers:
God our Father,
We give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for all the Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us, but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. May the Almighty Father, bless them all.
Through the intercession of St. Joseph, foster father of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
I look froward to beginning the celebrations from 3pm tomorrow afternoon at SJV's Father's Day afternoon.

Prayer for Fathers
God our Father,
In your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless our fathers, grandfathers and father-figures in our lives,
that they may have strength and courage.
Let their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we may honour them always with a spirit of profound respect.
Amen

School Masses Term 3
As a school, we regularly attend the Wednesday morning 9:30am Mass at St John Vianney’s Church. The choir sings at this Mass and sometimes our students have a role in other parts of the celebration. Parents and friends of our school are welcome to join us alongside parishioners at this Mass.
The next Mass the school will be attending will be on Wednesday 20th September, and this will be led by 5/6J.
Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.

Term 3 - Week 5 Merit Award Students
Sullivan, Patrick, Imogen, Diana, Harry, Miah, Theodora, Christopher, Grace and Yuvraj
Book Week is always a wonderful week at the ELC. We enjoyed 2 fabulous costume parades with children and teachers inspired by their favourite books. For the Lobsters Parade, the teachers were crayons from ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and on Wednesday they dressed as all the parts of the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story. We even had a special Hungry Caterpillar inspired Fruit Shop with 1 apple, 2 pears, 3 plums, 4 strawberries, 5 oranges (and everything that the Hungry Caterpillar ate on Saturday) as the teachers acted out the story for the children.
We wish all our dads, granddads and father figures a very happy weekend and we hope that you are able to join in with some of our Father’s Day celebrations.

2023 SJV Fete - Best Day Ever!
We are 9 weeks away from this year’s Fete, being held on Saturday 4th November, 10am-2pm.

We really need a stall leader for each of the Chip on a Stick, White Elephant, Laser Tag and Chocolate (Prize) Wheel stalls.
Please consider putting your hand up to help with these important stalls. You will have other volunteer helpers on the day, get a break to enjoy the fete yourself and have assistance from the Fete Committee who will manage signage, pricing and consumables relating to your stall.
Please email sjvfete@gmail.com if you're keen to help.
UNIFORM FREE DAY FRIDAY WEEK 9 – 15th September
In exchange for a donation to the fete, come in your free clothes on Friday 15 September.

A message from Weston indoor Sports
For over 20 years your local Weston Indoor Sports Centre has held a summer soccer season with children from almost every school in the Canberra region participating. Many children from St John Vianny Primary School have played at our centre each year and we would like to continue that relationship.
The Matildas have inspired so many children (especially girls) from all over Australian to become involved in team sports. While this level of interest exists, we would like to offer more children from our region the opportunity to play soccer and become a part of a team while building friendships and being active.
As you are aware, this activity aligns with most schools’ ongoing focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a sense of community among the students and parents. It also offers skills development to your students such as teamwork, discipline and leadership.
