Dear SJV Families
Welcome to the end of Wk 2.
I have a few important pieces of information that I want to let our community know about.
NAPLAN 2023
Today year 3 & 5 NAPLAN results will be forwarded home to parents via their child's bag. These have changed from last year. I have placed a link here -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcYsiLtE7a8 - to explain the current report. I am very happy with our schools results, especially given our cohort size. This also gives all our teachers an idea of how we can help students in some specific areas. Whilst saying that, NAPLAN is one test on one day, and does not override our PAT (Primary Assessment Test), classroom and CE assessments, it accompanies them.
DISCO BINGO Adults Night - Saturday 19th August 6:00pm - BYO drinks
I have already booked my tickets for the Adult Fun Disco Night on Saturday 19th Aug. This is a chance to meet new people, dance...... or not, win prizes and eat pizza! What's not to like??? Seriously this is a good way for our community to come together again after putting up with a three year pandemic. A table will be found for you and I am sure that you will have a great night.
Welcome to our Parish Community
I would like to welcome Harry Taylor to our parish. Harry was baptised over the holidays and will be confirmed with all of Year 6 later in the term.
Change of Date - Questacon Excursion now Mon 14th August
Just an FYI - An excursion for K-4 has been organised for Questacon which has been moved from Thursday to Monday.
Away from School - Mon 31st July - Thurs 3rd August
Next week I will be away until Friday attending a National Principals' Conference and our ACT Regional Principals' Meeting.
I will be here Thursday night attending our SCC Meeting and back of course for our SJV Feast Day. Mrs De Rosa will be Acting Principal until I return on the Friday.
God Bless
Peter Rodda
Principal
Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.

2023 SJV Fete - Best Day Ever!
The Fete Committee met this week and preparations are well underway.
I have an amazing team helping to bring this year's fete together, thanks for all your efforts so far - Anita Wilkinson, Ash Donley, Janice Spackman, Kylie Sjoberg, Matt Thorpe, Penny Bufalo, Pete Seivers, Sammy Russell and Tessa Goundar.
Just FYI the screaming faces have no connection to our awesome committee..... it's just a way of saying - ahhhhhhhhhhhh the fete is only 14 weeks away!!!!

A Stall Leader
- Helps set up before/on the day
- Manages the stall (with the help of volunteers) all day
- Helps pack up the stall at the end of the day
- Is the stall contact with the Fete Committee
- Stall Leaders on food stalls are not responsible for making or buying food for their stalls (unless they want to).
A Stall Leader role can be shared between two people if preferred. The Fete Committee provide support and guidance, so there is plenty of help for those who haven't been a Stall Leader before and are willing to give it a go. ✨
Please email sjvfete@gmail.com to volunteer for one of these important roles.
Donation Drop Off
Remember to drop off any unwanted items for the White Elephant stall along with books and toys.
If you’re having a clean out, make sure you keep your CLEAN and GOOD QUALITY goods for our White Elephant, Toys and Books stalls - no electrical goods can be accepted.
We would also love donations of any PLANTS , SEEDS and supermarket paper or plastic BAGS (for our fete visitors to take all their goodies home in)
Please take your items to the classrooms near the Year 1 & 2 classrooms (check the map below and at the front office if unsure). There will be labelled boxes and crates for your donations. Please assist us by putting your items in the correct spots.
Sponsorship
Big shout out to our Sponsors, thank you for coming aboard early and supporting us this year:
- Luton Properties Weston Creek
- Bunnings Tuggeranong
- Brindabella Waste
- Matt Johnson Mobile Mechanic
Do you have or know of a business that can support our event? Sponsorship is crucial to success. Sponsors receive great benefits in return for their support, including promotional banners to display, features in our newsletter and on our fete flyer and get great exposure!
Email sjvfete@gmail.com if you know of a business that would like to be involved.

SUSTAINABILITY @ SJV
National Tree Planting Day - Wednesday 2nd August
SJV is one of the first Catholic Schools to be a part of the Sustainable School Program - supported by the ACT Government.
Today Mrs Stilling's husband and Mr Rodda collected from the Yarralumla Nursery a gift of 15 established native trees and 35 shrubs for our school - the trees will be planted within the school grounds for future shade and the native shrubs will help to establish our indigenous garden.
A huge thankyou to Alice from Yarralumla nursery who was a wealth of knowledge to Janice when choosing the right trees for the playground.
Special mention to Trevor Stilling (Mrs Stilling's husband) and Mr Rodda for their early morning drive to Yarralumla Nursery to collect the trees and transport them safely back to SJV.
The saying is true... 'many hands make light work'.
If you are free next Wednesday morning from 9:30am to support the teachers and students to plant the trees - they would appreciate it.
Wednesday 9th August
A huge SJV thanks to Bunnings Tuggeranong, who will be visiting our lunchtime sustainability group to facilitate a workshop - a veggie/seedling planting activity in preparation for our school fete.
We really appreciate their ongoing support for our sustainability group.
Thank you!
Happy Gardening !!
