Dear SJV Families
We are at the end of Week 3 already, with so much done, but so much more to do.
To start our newsletter off, I want to share with you a beautiful reflection that one of our Year 4 students completed in class.
Grace - What is Grace?
When I hear the word Grace, I think about Jesus, friend of sinners. He forgave them, John 1 - For God did not send his son into the world to condemn it but to save it. Grace is the power to forgive or be forgiven. Hanston
Very profound words from a primary school student.
Mother’s Day - 12th May 8am
The BBQ is ready, the bacon ordered, and the coffee beans have been roasted. Dads will be on the tongs tomorrow serving from 8am sharp. Brewed coffee will be available using tap and go and we should have a photo booth frame for you to capture the memory with your children. I look forward to see everyone there.
Enrolment Period - May
We had a great turn out for our Open Days with over 20 families coming through our school. The best recommendation that people can receive is from you, so if you know someone who is thinking of choosing a school for next year, let them know that SJV would be their best choice.
Athletics Carnival – Friday 12th May
Our carnival will begin tomorrow at 10am, we have had some parents put their hand up to volunteer but if you would like to help out tomorrow, we can always use your help. The carnival should wrap up in time for children to be back at school for lunch.
Parent Teacher Interviews - Wk 5 - 22nd - 26th May
Teachers will be holding interviews for parents in under two weeks' time. These interviews are aimed at giving parents a clear idea of their child's grasp of the Australian Curriculum according to their age and grade level. A Compass notification will be sent out to parents when the online booking platform is ready. Please take this opportunity to see what your child has achieved and the challenges that lie ahead. this will be a time for your child, you and the teacher, to address goals for the remainder of the year.
X-Country - Thank you
A big thank you to all our parents, grandparents and carers who were able to come to our X-Country last week to cheer on our children and help supervise our on-course runners. Much thanks should go to the Stage 1 team of Mr Young, Mrs Stilling and Mrs Matchett who did a wonderful job in organising and managing the event.
School Vision
My final item is one of the most important that I will mention this year. Our staff, liaising with our SCC and Catholic Education has been working on our new school vision. After much work and discussion, I am pleased to place our new school vision below.
Inspired by Jesus, our community nurtures the heart, mind and spirit to accept all, achieve excellence and serve.
The above statement will help shape our community for the next five years.
God Bless

What is Walk Safely to School Day all about?
Walk Safely to School Day is part of National Road Safety Week and will be celebrated on Friday 19th May 2023. It aims to improve the environment and our daily exercise routines.
Walking to school is the perfect way to start the day by getting some exercise and fresh air, ready to start school with a clear mind. Here are some of the benefits you can enjoy when you choose to walk to school:
- Walking offers a great opportunity to remind children about safe pedestrian behaviour and recap on the rules of the road.
- Being outside in the fresh air creates a space in your day for mindful exercise. Walking and taking in the scenery around you creates a sense of calm that will set you up for the rest of your day.
- Walking to school will help to reduce the air pollution in your area or near your school.
- By using your feet instead of a car, you can also play your part in helping to reduce traffic congestion.
How can you get involved and support the cause?
- Let us know how many family members will join us - siblings more than welcome.
How many Adults and how many children will walk from Stirling Labor Club to School Friday 19th May?
Poll is closed
- Next Friday put on your walking shoes and be ready to walk to school.
- Meet SJV staff on the grass near the Labor club underpass at 8.00am.
4. The group (staff, students and parents) will begin walking at 8.15am going through the underpass and along the footpath straight to school.
5. When walkers arrive at school they will receive a cereal breakfast (cornflakes or rice bubbles) - Coffee and tea available for adults.
6. Children will receive a tattoo and certificate of participation.
Hope to see as many adults and children join us.
Have a super day on Sunday!
Wishing all the mothers and mother figures in our community a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday. No matter how you spend it, I hope you know how special you all are.

Prayer for Mothers
Heavenly Father,
On this special day dedicated to mothers, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude and love. We thank You for the precious gift of motherhood, for the women who have selflessly embraced this calling, and for the countless ways they reflect Your nurturing and unconditional love.
Today, we lift up all mothers, both near and far, and ask for Your abundant blessings upon them. Grant them strength and wisdom as they navigate the joys and challenges of motherhood. Fill their hearts with joy and patience as they care for their children, for they are the vessels through which Your love is made manifest in our lives.
Amen.

ELC NEWS
This week our St John Vianney’s Year 5 buddies had their first visit to the ELC. This is the first year we have had previous ELC students return as the peer buddy. It is wonderful to see the leadership skills and confidence grow in the Year 5 students and the relationships they form with the ELC students over the year. We look forward to more visits over the term.
SJV Athletics Carnival
The ELC will be participating in the St John Vianney’s Athletics Carnival at Chapman Oval tomorrow, Friday 12 May. Please ensure you have retuned the permission notes today. This will be the first SJV carnival that we have managed to attend in a long time. Covid and poor weather conditions have prevented this special connection the past few years.
Mothers Day Breakfast and Open Classroom
On Friday 12 May, we invite mothers, grandmothers and special friends to enjoy some light breakfast (pastries, tea and coffee) in the hall from 8.30-9.10, followed by a visit to the classrooms to spend time with your children. The morning will finish at 10am. The ELC children will not be attending the liturgy as they will be heading off to the SJV carnival.
ELC Open Days and Tours
We had another successful Open morning on Tuesday and received very positive feedback from the families who visited. Families are welcome to drop in for a tour on Tuesday 16 May and 23 May between 9:30 and 11am.
2024 Online Enrolments

- If your residential address is Holder or Duffy you are zoned for St Jude’s.
- Weston and Molonglo are shared zones and families can choose which school to apply for. Please note this does not guarantee you a place at that school.
