Dear SJV Families
Welcome to the beginning of Term 2. I am sure that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Easter during the holidays. I have placed a reflection link below that highlights the importance of this amazing time in our church calendar.

Walkathon/Colour Run 12:10pm and 2:45pm
Tomorrow the children (weather permitting) will participate in the walkathon starting at 12:10pm. The school has sent a note home containing all the relevant information to advertise this event. In the afternoon the children will be able to celebrate their achievement by being splashed by colour and even splashing colour all over me! A lot of fun will be had by everyone.
Open Days – Wed 3rd May 9:30am-5pm and Saturday 6th May 9:20am-12:30pm
Next week the school will be holding two Open Day sessions. Staff and Year 6 students will be conducting tours of the school for interested parents and their families. If you know of anyone who is looking for Kindergarten in 2024, please send them our way.
X-Country Carnival – Friday 5th May 1:50pm-2:45pm
Next Friday the children (weather permitting) will participate in the X-Country Carnival. The K-2 team has sent a note home containing all the relevant information. It would be wonderful to see as many people there as possible to cheer on the children.
Athletics Carnival 12th May
A note has gone out to advertise this event. The ELC will be in attendance and the emphasis will be on fun and participation. It will also give our serious athletes an opportunity to progress to the next level. Helpers are always welcome, so if you can help please volunteer now.
Mother’s Day Morning Breakfast - 12th May 8:00am
This year for Mother’s Day a BBQ breakfast will be held to celebrate all that our mums do. Year 1 parents are coordinating the morning and a note will go out early next week to advertise the event.
As usual ordering will take place on Qkr! and we are hoping to have a dedicated coffee van on-site to help all parents cope with an early morning start.
Enrolment Period - Flyer Drop (Volunteers Needed)
As part of our enrolment push for our wonderful school, we have organised flyers for our local area. Many parents have already done an amazing job dropping flyers through Weston/Molonglo. These will contain our name, the day and time of our Open Day and a QR code for parents to scan which sends people to our website and Facebook page. If you can help we have this weekend left to drop off the last of our flyers. Just contact the Front Office and Jet will be happy to give you a bundle.
Prayer Celebrations - Easter Sunday Celebration 2:10pm
This week we have listened to 3/4P describe the importance of ANZAC Day and tomorrow we will celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, portrayed by Year 2JB. I would like to thank the steady stream of parents and grandparents who have attended our celebrations to support our students.
God Bless

Principal
A message from the Assistant Principal and Mrs D's "Thought of the Week"
Tomorrow will complete our commitment to walk 5km as part of the Colour Run Walkathon. This is an opportunity to celebrate Easter and the Walkathon with the splashing of colour. Students are invited to wear out of uniform, plain light-coloured clothes to school and participate in being coloured in non-toxic coloured powder.
Our SRC have promoted the fundraising campaign and have celebrated with classes that have achieved milestones. Year 2 are still in the lead.
Congratulations Year 2 - You have won the glass jar of lollies and Mr Rodda will draw out the 5 names of the students who will colour Bomb him tomorrow morning.
Every $10 that is raised will get a prize and will go towards our target. Our fundraising efforts will provide some upgrades to the playground sensory spaces. .
There will be a whole school draw to win one fo 5 canteen vouchers as we reached our $4000 milestone overnight.
The class who raises the most money will win a pizza lunch and if we can reach the $8000 milestone, the school will celebrate with popcorn and a movie afternoon.
Fundraising will continue until prize ordering is finalised
The plan on Friday (weather permitting) is as follows:
- Children arrive to school in old, light-coloured clothing (appropriate closed shoes, old clothes that may be stained with colour run powder)
- Recess as normal
- Following Recess, children will walk 5km around our local community supervised by staff. Children are asked to carry their own drink bottles.
- Lunch as normal
- At 2.15pm, the school community will attend the Easter prayer celebration, presented by Year 2. Parents welcome to attend.
- At approximately 2.45pm until the end of the day children will move onto the oval area and be covered with coloured powder (corn-starch and food colouring), to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the completion of the walkathon. The colour we will be using is the Colour Run powder from the Walkathon. Children can wear a white or light coloured T-shirt over their ‘coloured clothes’, to enhance the appearance of colour. Past year’s walkathon shirts could be an option, or an adult’s old t-shirt. Parents are welcome to participate in the colour part of the day.
- You may like to provide a change of clothes or provide a towel to avoid staining car seats. The powder is made with corn-starch and food colouring, it is non-toxic, however could stain clothing and furniture. You may wish to supply your child with wet wipes to remove excess powder from arms and legs.
- The day will end with children enjoying being covered by colour, running, and playing around the school grounds.
- If the weather is unkind, we will make the necessary changes.
WHAT DO CHILDREN NEED?
- Keep fundraising!
- Coloured clothing that can be covered with coloured powder, alternatively an old T-shirt to wear over plain clothes.
- Recess/lunch as normal including a drink bottle and hat.
- Change of clothes, if necessary, wet wipes or towel for stain protection.
Parents and extended family are welcome to join us for any part of the day.
