Dear SJV Families
It was wonderful to see some of our ex-students return to our school to talk about leadership. All three girls have significant leadership roles in their current high school and talked about other SJV alumni who currently hold leadership roles in three other secondary schools. It was great to see where our students take their learning.
A Lenten Prayer
Almighty Father, who sent your only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sin, show me how I can honour you and bring glory to your name, by walking in the way of Jesus. Give me grace and mercy as I try and fail, guidance when I'm not sure which way to go, and wisdom to trust you in all things.
Enrolment Period - Flyer Drop (Volunteers Needed)
As part of our enrolment push for our wonderful school we have organised flyers for our local area. These will contain our name, the day and time of our Open Day and a QR code for parents to scan which sends people to our website and Facebook page. A compass note will go out next week asking for your help. This means dropping off some flyers in your street and a couple of adjacent streets. A Compass Invitation was sent out today for families to OPT IN. Please get behind your school.
Swimming Carnival - Ribbons and Age Trophies
Ribbons and shields will be handed out at tomorrow's Awards Assembly at 9am
Working Bee - Sunday 10am-1pm
A reminder that our Working Bee is this Sunday between 10am-1pm. There are activities and child minding for the children. Could you please bring wheel barrows, shovels, leaf rakes weeding tools etc so we have enough tools. There will be drinks and a sausage sizzle towards the end of the Bee. Thank you for your support.
Disco
What an amazing night the children had, all thanks to the brilliant coordination and organisation demonstrated by our Year 3/4 parents. I don't know whether it was the pizza, music, tattoos or flashing lights, but I can vouch that the children had a fantastic time.
Holy Week Celebrations
Next week our school begins celebrating one of the most holy times in the churches year, Holy Week. Please look at the times and celebrations in the newsletter and come along if you can.
Energy Drinks Alert
In some of our system schools we have become aware that some students are consuming ‘Prime Energy Drinks’. Like all drinks containing stimulants such as Red Bull or Mother, children’s health can be seriously harmed if consumed. We are aware that some versions don’t contain stimulants, however, our school does not allow energy drinks of any kind. If students bring them to school we may ask parents to collect them from the front office.
Cross Country
Our annual X-Country will take place next Thursday from 12:10pm onward. Mrs Matchett, Mrs Stilling and Mr Young have already sent a note home asking for parent help for the 90 minute K-6 running session. It would be great if parents who are able to come along, make some time to cheer the children on.
Leave Requests for Student Family Holidays
A reminder to all of our families that if you are taking extended leave for a holiday or any other reason then you need to send an email into the school to ask for permission. This can be sent directly to myself. This allows the school to record your child's absences correctly.
Students feeling hungry
Could parents please ask their children if they need extra food for the school day. Recently we have had some children eating all of their food at first break and then still feeling hungry at second break. The front office has made some sandwiches for these hungry students, but after a while this will become unsustainable. Students may be going through a growth spurt, so it could be a good time to touch base with your child to see if they have enough food to last the whole day.
God Bless

A message from the Assistant Principal and Mrs D's "Thought of the Week"
Yesterday we had a beautiful prayer celebration and Year 5 and 6 students received their leadership badges. Congratulations to our Year 5's who received their Heart Space badge and Year 6's who received their 2023 Leader badge. They are already wonderful leaders and I'm sure will continue to make us proud.
We were lucky to have 3 past students from St Clare's College as guest speakers. Bella, Lara and Immi spoke proudly about their journey into leadership as all three are 2023 House Captains. The girls spoke about not having the loudest voice, encouraging others and being a team players. They spoke about being a good leader involved listening, sharing ideas and being passionate.
If they were able to talk to their Year 6 self they would say: 'Take risks, don't be afraid to try something new, don't compare your life to others and don't be afraid to follow a different road."
Congratulations to our 2023 leaders. We look forward to an exciting year and your contributions which will make our community even stronger. Strive to Build, Belong, Become and Believe!
WALKATHON
With the holidays approaching, it is a perfect time to invite family and friends to contribute to our first major fundraiser.
The best way to share your link is to pick five people you think will donate, write a personal message to them and either call, text or email them. These initial donations will encourage others to help you!
Two days after doing this, start sharing your link far and wide. Text message is always the best way to share your link, followed by social media and lastly, email.
Remember, for creating a page and getting at least one donation, you’ll automatically be in the draw to win a $20,000 prize!
The class with the most funds raised at the beginning of next term will go into a draw to win the opportunity to colour bomb Mr Rodda and receive a bowl of lollies to share. To help your child’s class win, simply create your profile at www.schoolfunrun.com.au and start fundraising.
As we near the end of Term One, I reflect on how great it has been to have school return to normal after the effects of COVID. It has been wonderful to have school events and to see parents at assembly and around the school. We have a special and generous community at SJV and I thank each of you for the role you play in making it wonderful.
Special thanks at this time of the year to our staff who have worked hard to do all they can to support such a range of children and families. I also acknowledge and thank the parents who can help in those extra ways SCC, Canteen Volunteers, Clothing Pool, Carnival Helpers, Colour Run Supporters, Library Helpers and Disco Volunteers. Thanks for making SJV the extraordinary place it is.
Wishing you all an Easter filled with happiness and the love and grace of God.
Happy and safe holidays... Mrs D’s ‘Thought of the Week….’

Palm Sunday Prayer
We praise you, O God,
for your redemption of the world through your Son.
He entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph
and was proclaimed Messiah and king
by those who spread garments and branches along his way.
Just as we carry these branches,
may we follow Christ in the way of the cross that,
dying and rising with him, we may enter into your kingdom;
through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
Amen.
