Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to the end of Wk 6.
What a difference a week makes. I hope everyone is keeping safe and that you are managing life in lockdown. I know that in the near future there may be families in our community that need to isolate, as this lockdown begins to directly affect every Canberran. If this occurs and you need assistance, please reach out to the school and we will see what we can do to help.
God of all life…
May your love and light shine in and through me today
In a way that no mask can hide.
May my eyes dance with the laughter and joy
Replacing my hidden smile.
May my actions of care and concern
Speak louder than my muffled voice ever could.
And may the generosity of my heart
Radiate out through who I am
And how I respond to the world around me
So that others may not see my mask
But your image shining out
Moving in and through me today.
Amen
COVID 19 – Information for Parents
Welcome to a special Covid edition of the newsletter. Below I have sectionalised areas to make them easier to understand.
Attendance
CE is checking student attendance in all schools on a daily basis. Please ensure that your children makes their daily check-in with their teacher when they take the roll.
Work Submission
Could you please assist our wonderful teachers by asking your child to submit any work needed in a timely manner. This is to ensure that a teacher has only 1-3 items to assess per day for each child, meaning 20-40 items for a class. This is far better for the teacher as it avoids them needing to assess 100 items at the end of the week. Your help with this would be much appreciated.
Remote Learning Protocols
Attached to this newsletter is a simple diagram that sets out best protocols for live check-ins. All of these are straightforward and make sense. The only guideline which may not be able to be fulfilled is item two – Location. Depending on your house and the number of children you have, we know that families will do their best. If you could print this guide out and place it near your child’s workspace, it would be much appreciated. Daily Check In Rules Etiquette
Event Cancellation
Unfortunately we need to cancel or postpone several scheduled events. Any event postponed will still be dependent on new Covid guidelines. The school has given much thought to this and we believe that in the current climate it would not be wise to continue forward by amending the following;
- 50th Anniversary Mass and Morning Tea – September 1 - Postponed until Term 4
- 50th Anniversary Ball – September 4 – Postponed until 2022 (All monies to be refunded)
- Father’s Day – September 3 – Cancelled – Please spoil dad at home
- Book Week Parade – Altered to a virtual experience – More information to follow
- School Disco – 16 September – Postponed until Term 4
- Confirmation – 7th September – Postponed until Term 4
- South Weston Athletics – Postponed until further notice
Essential Workers
I would like to remind families that if both parents are working that our school is open to support you and your children). I would like to acknowledge our families who are using this as an absolute last alternative. Your decisions are keeping our students and teachers safe.
Remote Learning Survey – 27th August
Next week we will place out a survey to ask for your input on our Remote Learning Model. As a school when delivering systems, we try to pitch models that meet the needs of our community. At the same time we are trying to ensure that the learning is differentiated for all students. As such the survey will ask you questions about our check-ins, live teaching sessions, pre-records and scheduled work. It would be immensely helpful if you could complete this a survey on the Friday that it is posted out to you.
Once again, if you need help please reach out to your classroom teachers, Jo Reed, myself or the Front office.
God bless everyone and stay safe

Message from Assistant Principal Jo Reed
Re: St John Vianney’s Covid Wellbeing
We know schools are central to student wellbeing because of the social contact, routine, and being in our St John Vianney’s faith-filled Catholic learning community of hope, joy and wonder. At this time it is not physically possible, however,
staying connected online and in other ways bridges this gap. Our initial goal is to ensure the students feel connected and have a sense of belonging online with each other. Our teachers and staff are working hard to ensure this is the case as we navigate this new “norm.”
Our staff is using a growth mindset and a strengths-based approach to remote learning. We encourage a balanced approached to this “new norm” and understand that learning looks different in each home due to personal circumstances and family commitments. We have designed an SJV_Wellbeing_Calendar_2021.pdf with some fulfilled wellbeing ideas and activities to enjoy as a family and also a list of extra Online learning websites for students that have been directly hyperlinked for your convenience.
Stay safe and well.
