Welcome to Week 1 Term 3
Welcome back everyone. I hope you were able to enjoy some downtime with your children and are ready for the adventure of term three
“Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” St. John Paul II
This term has so many exciting activities available for us all and I am sure that everyone will get on board and enjoy Semester 2.
50th Anniversary Ball – September 4th 2021
The Ball committee has confirmed dates and that the Ball will be held at the Canberra Southern Cross Club in Corinna Room 1 on September 4th. This is a once in fifty year event, with a three course meal, prizes, a drinks package and a band, like the one found here -https://youtu.be/BJsgWvpkjQk - All for the reasonable price of $110.
The event will follow Covid-19 guidelines
A flyer will be sent out soon with all the information of how you can book, get table groups together and what the theme/dress code will be.
The invitation will be for all those who are over eighteen and have or have had a connection with our community. This means, former students, staff and parishioners and next years Kindergarten families are all invited.
Colour Run – Raise funds for new student desks and chairs
Our Colour Run Walkathon has been officially launched this week. As such the children will have brought home information today that explains the purpose of this fundraiser. You will note that the targeted resources for the raised funds have changed.
The children should hand you a flyer and introduction letter. The first step is just to register online. The class that has the most registrations will win a pizza party, what a great way to start!
The good news is that the school has found sufficient funds in its existing budget to purchase the proposed reading resources for the school. Therefore the school will target new furniture for the children using the Colour Run funds. Thank you for your support for this important fundraiser.

Events Calendar
On Monday your child will bring home the school’s Semester Two Event Calendar. This calendar highlights some of the important events and the classes responsible for organising them. As we had no real events last year due to Covid, this will be a new system for many parents. More information will follow this calendar to help people coordinate some of the fun events (Father's Day, Disco, Ginger Bread House Making etc) that are planned for our students.
God bless you and your family
Peter Rodda
Principal

SCHOOL BANKING NEWS - TERM 3
A reminder that school banking is back for Term 3. Bank books need to be sent in to school every THURSDAY.
How School Banking works:
It's easy as 1,2,3:
- 1. Bring your deposit to school in your Dollarmites deposit wallet on your weekly ‘School Banking Day’ (THURSDAY) to collect a silver Dollarmites token
- 2. Once you collect 10 tokens (if receiving physical tokens – maximum 1 token per week), you can choose a reward by placing the redemption slip and 10 tokens in your Dollarmites deposit wallet and bringing it in on School Banking Day
- 3. Kids can track their savings progress in the CommBank Youth app
You can download a copy of our Parent Guide to School Banking.
Enhance the School Banking experience with the CommBank Youth app:
CommBank Youth# app is a fun, secure way for your child to learn digital money skills. They can:
- Check their Youthsaver account balance
- View their School Banking deposits in their transaction history
- Track how many Dollarmites tokens they’ve earned
- Set savings goals and track progress
- Create a list of chores/jobs they can do to earn pocket money
If your child isn’t already involved in the school banking program, please contact the front office for further information.
Kind regards
Georgina Doyle & Nicole McCormack
School Banking Co-Ordinator's
SJV Tuckshop is open Wednesday & Friday. Orders can be made online via Qkr! A copy of the Menu and Qkr! instructions can be found on the Tuckshop Webpage.
Please remember to bring your WWVP card with you.
Tuckshop Volunteers Needed
EXTRA NOTE:
Fridays are the busiest for Karen and it would be great if you could offer some time to help out during the day. If you are able to assist, please fill out the tuckshop volunteer form and send it in. We do very much appreciate all our families that already volunteer for the canteen, as they say many hands make light work. Many thanks.
If you can only spare a couple of hours, that would be fantastic. If you have little ones, they are very welcome to come along.
Please contact the front office or fill in the tuckshop volunteer form to let us know you are able to help and when.
Happy Birthday Patrick S, Samuel S, Riaan O and Skye K
Welcome to term 3!
The ELC Holiday Program included opportunities for leisure as well as options to engage in structured activities and experiences. The children were engaged with science experiments such as the Arctic Animals, Lava Lamps, Fizzy Eggs and Volcano. The Teddy Bears Picnic was also a hit as the children brought in their own special teddy bears. Other favourites were the Bricks incursion, the new obstacle course equipment, and Aboriginal symbol sponge painting at our outdoor tunnel area.
On our MasterChef day, we tried three different foods. Curry sausages (recipe from the Callaghan family) and coconut roti were our lunch, and we tried sweet spinach cake for afternoon tea. We would like to create an ELC cookbook full of families’ tried and tested recipes. If you have a family favourite, please send the recipe to the office or give it to one of the staff.
If you have any feedback about the holiday program, please email the team at elc.stjudes@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Lobster Teacher
We welcome Isabella ‘Bella’ Madaffari to the team. Isabella comes to us with a passion to teach in Early Childhood. She is very excited to meet you all over the coming weeks.
Gymnastics
We have had such positive feedback about the Term 2 Gymnastics program and requests to run a second program. Can you please indicate on the sheet near the sign in/out iPads your preference for a Gymnastics program for Term 4.
COVID-19 adjustment and changes
Thank you for your understanding and support during these challenging times. Please note: only 6 adults (over 16yrs) can be in the foyer area at any one time. Please ensure you are maintaining 1.5m distance at all times.
St John Vianney’s Athletics Carnival
Due to wet weather, the SJV athletics carnival originally set for Term 2 was postponed. It has been rescheduled for Friday 30 July. Please return the permission note ASAP.
Family reflection sheets
Thank you for taking the time to complete the family reflection sheets that were in your child’s portfolios. Your feedback continues to inform our programs and practices.
Fees
The fee statement sent today includes the $65 Term 3 Resource Fee. Payment is due next Friday 23 July.
