Showcasing Year 2 Students Poem writing skills

This week's Poem is an example of a Cinquain Poem. What is a Cinquain Poem? Cinquains were invented by Adelaide Crapsey, an American poet, approx 100 years ago.  The cheer '2,4,6,8" is related to cinquains because those numbers are the pattern for the syllables of the first four lines in the poem. Perhaps Adelaide was thinking of this cheer when she wrote the first cinquain, or perhaps she really liked even numbers!

Rainbows

Brightly shining

Rainbows are a circle

Seven colours make a rainbow

STRONG TREE
     by Hu 5/6P
The tiny leaves fall all around me.
Swirling, floating falling.
Tumbling around on the soft dirt,
Finally laying down only to be blown again by a gust of wind.
Looking down at the falling limbs
And the leaves, all bright in the evening sun.

The Storm
by Olivia 5/6P
Thunder, lightning, a storm has started
The storm was powerful and mighty
The boat was hopeless
It was impossible for the boat to survive the storm
The storm and all the waves were in control
Anything was capable for the storm but not the boat
It was the end for the boat
but just the beginning for the storm.

                                         Nature
By Abigail 5/6P
I sit down on the soft ground
The warm sun embraces me in its arms
I hear the leaves rustle in the wind
When I sit here it's really calm
The sweet smell of lavender tickles my nose
While I see the Blackbirds quitely fly
I feel the air, cool as ice on my skin
While I look up at the calm, blue sky
I smell some rosemary as I quietly grin
But this was years ago, What happenend here?
The trees are breathing our poison we made
They're going to be extinct soon there will be no shade
We made this mess, but we won't fix this
Mother nature used to have a magical kiss
But we made factories that produce carbox dioxide
The leaves are dead they dried years ago
We should be scared, I know I'm terrified
The sun turns away, it's disappointed
We know we should change but it's too late
Soon there might be a 100% infant mortality rate
Our children are doomed they might not be able to breathe!
"Save the earth" Yeah right, It's a lie.
