Our Kindergarten children have been VERY excited over the past 9 days as we have been watching eggs hatch and welcoming 6 chickens and 3 ducks into our school family! 

As part of our Inquiry unit based on the concept of Change, the children have been making daily observations and discussing the needs of our new friends and how they change each day. We then relate this back to their own lives with the children identifying things they couldn't do as babies, younger children but now can. We have even had to deal with some difficult and sad conversations as two eggs , one chicken and one duck, didn't hatch and one chick had to be taken to the vet as it needed some intervention to break out as it was stuck in the shell and was very weak. The children have amazed me with their knowledge, resilience and understanding of the circle of life.
