Principal's Message
Dear SJV Community
Welcome to the end of Wk 7.
God, help me navigate whatever challenges I encounter this day. Be my comfort and my rock. Guide me to do Your will and be an instrument of your peace today and each day. Amen.
Reports Wk 9
Teacher's are busily working on your children's Semester 1 reports which will be available on Compass on Monday 23rd June. I am hoping that all parents have managed to speak with their teacher(s) during Parent/Teacher interviews, as these meetings should have given you a good idea of how your child is tracking and areas that require some extra attention.
Please note the terminology for reports in all Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn schools.
For Kindergarten students:
- Achievement in each subject is reported using a four-point scale (Above Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Working Towards Expectations, Experiencing Difficult
For Year 1 to Year 6 students:
-
Academic grades for each subject using a five-point scale from A-E will be reported using the ACT Common Grade Scale.
For all students:
-
Strand Achievement will be reported in English, Mathematics, Human Society and its Environment, PDHPE and Creative Arts using a five-point scale (Consistently, High, At Standard, Partial, Limited).
-
Engagement with Learning statements, which are taken directly from the Australian Curriculum, will provide specific information about your child’s Critical and Creative Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility, using a three-point scale (Consistently, Usually, Developing, Needs Improvement).
-
Individual student comments will NOT be used in the Semester 1 Reports.
Carpark Reminder
Some parents in cars are stopping near the large gate where children forward in and out at the beginning and end of the school day. This is occurring mostly in the morning. A gentle reminder that if you want to stop to drop off, please do so safely outside the school hall in the drop-off and pick-up zone.
Disco - Thursday 26th June
A flyer will be sent out next week advertising our 2025 Disco. Remember there is a new format occurring, with the Disco starting at 2:30pm and finishing at 4:30pm, being supervised by teachers. For the students that don't want to participate, a quiet option in the library will be available until 3:10pm. Parents who are picking their children up after the disco will need to arrive by 4:20pm.
Kinder Enrolment Interviews
By the end of next week I will have completed Kinder interviews. It is shaping up to be a wonderful class with a good split of girls and boys for 2025. Our class is almost full so if you know anyone who is still looking for Kinder next year, they will need to get their application in now or they will miss out.
Long Service Leave
This year I have some planned and approved leave occurring each term, as such I will be taking LSL in Week 9 and 10. Fortunately, Nina De Rosa our Assistant Principal and Laura Matchett our Religious Education Coordinator will be able to continue the smooth running of SJV in my absence.
School Photos - 19th June
Don't forget to have your child in full winter school uniform for our school photos. Please make sure that they have their maroon jumpers on so that our photos will look great.
God Bless
