Principal's Message
Dear SJV Community
Welcome to the end of Wk 5.
Loving God, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to his disciples and to us. May we go out with joy and conviction, to share the Good News of the gospel with all those we meet. Amen.
Congratulations Mrs Emerson
Congratulations to Mrs Sarah Emerson who is expecting her second child in the term three holidays. Mrs Emerson teachers Yr 1 on Thursdays and Year 5/6P on Fridays and we are all very excited about her news. Sarah will take maternity leave this year and we will keep you informed as to the new teacher that takes on her role for 12 months.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all the girls and boys who represented SJV in the X-Country this week. A special shout-out to Rupert who came in 3rd for his age group and will be moving on to represent the region at the ACT carnival. Once again people commented on how beautifully behaved our students were and how well they represented our school.
Carter (Yr 5) Futsal Success - Support in Term 3
Earlier this year, Carter was selected to represent the ACT in a national futsal competition held in Sydney. The selection process was highly competitive, with around 100 boys trialling for the Under 9s age group. Only around 20 were chosen to form two ACT teams.
Once selected, Carter committed to an intense training schedule, attending team training sessions twice a week while also maintaining his regular outdoor training and participating in additional one-on-one and skills-based coaching sessions. It was a very demanding routine, but Carter showed great dedication and perseverance.
His hard work paid off—his team progressed to the semi-finals of the national tournament. Carter’s impressive performance caught the attention of selectors, and he has now been chosen to represent Australia as part of a national selection team at an international futsal tournament in the Philippines later this year.
Given that Carter will be representing Australia, it would be wonderful if SJV could get behind him with a fund-raiser to help with some travel costs. As such we will be inviting children to participate in 'Wear your favourite Jersey' on the first Friday of Term 3 and bring in a donation for Carter's travel expenses. A flyer will come out in two weeks time advertising the day and any contribution will be warmly welcome.
DISCO - Reminder (Year 5 and Year 4) 26th June
A date has been settled on and preparations are under way. The format this year is somewhat different as the Disco will start at 2:30pm and finish by 4:30pm. Whilst teachers will act as supervisors for the event, we will still need people who can help with fun things like a sausage sizzle, tattoos, hairspray, lolly bags etc.
Whilst a Year 5 parent has coordinated the event thus far, I am asking for Year 4 parents to fill the assistant roles by helping with some of the afore mentioned activities. Could I please ask that if you are able to help you contact Matt Thorpe - mobile 0411 388 040.
God Bless
