Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge
This year's theme is 'Spaces and Places Where We Read'
This year SJV students will participate in the 2025 Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. At school, and at home, students are encouraged to read 30 books by the end of June (this includes books that are read to them/ shared).
Each student from Year 2 to Year 6 has a recording sheet in the library that they are encouraged to fill in to show the 30 books they have read.
Encouraging your children to read is one of the best things you can do for them, and even more importantly, reading with them is such a powerful experience. When you sit down with a book together, you’re not just helping them build skills – you're also creating lasting memories and bonding in a meaningful way.
Reading alongside your children shows them how exciting and enjoyable books can be. It’s a shared adventure where you can explore new stories, laugh at silly characters, and talk about what happens in the book. It strengthens their love for reading and encourages them to continue exploring new worlds on their own as they grow. Plus, it gives you a chance to be a role model, showing them that reading is not just something for school – it’s fun, engaging, and a lifelong joy.
When you read with your children, you’re also fostering a love of learning, helping them develop language skills, and even strengthening their ability to focus and think critically. But most of all, it’s about showing them that reading isn’t just a task – it’s an adventure that’s best enjoyed together. So grab a book and dive into that wonderful world of stories with your child. It’s an experience they’ll treasure forever!
