Dear SJV Families

Welcome to the end of Wk 7.

A Spring Prayer

Spring is a metaphor for change. Some changes we eagerly await, and some we abhor. Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited. To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope, and rebirth.

May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth. As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too.

Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring. Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus’ name.

Celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation

Last week the parish held a beautiful celebration for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Our students, Kate, Janae, Sophie, Zoe, Shelby and Maryam displayed reverence and respect, both admirable qualities of the Holy Spirit.  We wish the girls all the best for their continuing journey of being catholic.

Your chance to win a $1000 cash prize starts today!  Students should have brought home a book this afternoon and you can start selling straight away.  Once you have sold one book and you want to sell more, just bring in the stubs and money and we will issue you with another book to sell.  These funds help the community council support our school with student learning and resources.

Book Parade

What an amazing day this was.  The children were so excited and happy to show off their fantastic costumes.  I would like to thank all the parents and grandparents for attending the parade and supporting the children, making them feel special and highlighting the fact that reading is fun. A big thank you to Mrs Spackman who made the entire week a celebratory occasion with exciting activities for the full five days.

Father's Day

A huge thank you to the wonderful Year 3 parent team that organised our Father's Day last week.  We had a very impressive turnout with a full hall of excited children and supportive fathers and Grandfathers, eating good food and making amazing paper air planes.  You can see below the competition in full flight as well as our proud winners, the Ford family.  A shout-out goes to Bakers Delight who provided all the delicious pastries to make the event a tasty success.

Science Incursion

We had a very educational and funny science incursion last week.  Part theatre and part theory, the presenters did a brilliant job in entertaining and educating the children.  A big thanks to Mrs Spackman who organised this great opportunity.

Photos to follow.

Chris Steel Visit

Next week we will be receiving a visit from the Minister for Transport Chris Steel.  Teachers and students alike will get the opportunity to meet Chris and Chris will get the opportunity to see some of our teachers in action.  The SRC will also be given some time to have a sit-down conversation with Chris and I believe they are busy preparing some thoughtful questions for him when he arrives.

Principal's Conference and Leave

The Australian Primary Principals Conference, which I will be attending,  begins in Wk 9 on Tuesday.  After this event I will be taking some long service leave which means I will not return until Term 4.  As always the more than capable Mrs De Rosa will take care of our community whilst I am away.

I wish everyone safe travels for the holiday and a safe return to SJV in Term 4.
