Science Week

Science Week 2024
The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Students will have an amazing variety of topics to investigate.
The curriculum focus of the theme is on:
- Science as a Human Endeavour
- Chemical Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Earth and Space Sciences, and
- Biological Sciences.
Next Week, on Wednesday the 14th of August, SJV will be celebrating all things Science. ELC will be joining us during the day for a Science expo filled with science experiments, learning and fun! Each child will also receive an icy pole to celebrate Science Week.
The Science excitement does not stop there!! Thanks to a National Science Week Grant, each SJV student will take home a Science show bag. Each bag contains science experiments and the materials needed to create these experiments. We encourage families to come together to read, question, think, hypothesise and experiment with how and why science works!
Please be aware that bags contain soils, sand, charcoal, skittles, marshmallows, tooth picks and other possibly hazardous materials to small children. Scissors are needed to cut paper helicopters and a sharp object is required to cut a bottle to create a water filtration system. We need your help to make these experiments the most interactive, fun learning they can be. We hope you enjoy learning about Science together.
