Child Safeguarding Commitment
The safeguarding of our students is a key priority of St John Vianney’s. Safeguarding is a term used to describe the protection of and human rights of vulnerable people. This may be due to their age, culture or trauma background, or they may be at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Anyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn is committed to keeping children safe in all schools. Here is SJV's Child Safeguarding Commitment:

A Health-Conscious Community
As winter has begun, we are at that time of year when sickness is prevalent. Over the past few weeks, we have had several staff members away, and unfortunately, there are times when we cannot provide relief teachers due to high demand. During these instances, we do our best to cover classes with other staff members. However, there are occasions when children are placed in another class with 'A day away pack'.Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability
Australian, state and territory governments have agreed on a new approach to collecting data on school students with disability. The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability NCCDSSD) provides Australian schools, parents, education authorities and the community with information about the number of students with disability in schools, where they are located and the adjustments they receive.
The national data collection on students with disability reinforces the existing obligations that schools have towards students under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005. It counts the number of students who are supported under these obligations based on the professional judgement of teachers and their understanding and knowledge of their students.
At SJV adjustment data is collected through a child's Personal Plan. More information about the collection of data can be found: https://www.nccd.edu.au

If we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome."
