Library News Think U Know Presentation
Think U Know
On Tuesday, Year 3-6 participated in a Think U Know workshop (Constable Kenny will work with Kindergarten to Year 2 later in the year).
Think U Know - Education for children and young people
Children and young people receive education directly from influencers in their lives, including parents, carers, teachers and police.
Resources encourage critical thinking and learnings to prevent harm, to identify safe or unsafe situations and know when and how to seek help.
Our in-school presentations are delivered by State and Territory police to build positive engagement between children, young people and police, while equipping students with the knowledge and skills to be able to take actionable steps to maintain their safety at all times.
A link has been added here with parent resources linked to the content received at our workshop on Tuesday. Ask your children what they learnt about during the workshop - these topics will create wonderful discussions for you as a family.
THINK U KNOW - EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Some of the content the students learnt about was:
Asking before using a device, do your parents know what you're playing? Sharing passwords with parents (not siblings and friends), passwords should not include any personal information about the person, don't give personal information, TALK TO A TRUSTED ADULT IF YOU'RE CONCERNED ABOUT ANYTHING YOU SEE ONLINE, think and check before you post (example given of a photo and the information that could be gathered about the student), the what if's of walking home/ being home by yourself (students encouraged to discuss with trusted adult the possible dangers and what they would do), criminal offence to cyber bully, what to do if they see something negative (block, delete and report), kids helpline ? internet can be great, work together to learn how to use it safely!
Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge
All SJV students have been registered to participate in the 2024 Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. At school, and at home, students are encouraged to read 30 books by the end of June (this includes books that are read to them/ shared).
Each student from Year 2 to Year 6 has a recording sheet in the library that they are encouraged to fill in to show the 30 books they have read. I will keep a note of the books we read in the library from Kinder to Year 2.
