SUSTAINABILITY @ SJV

  • The lunchtime sustainability group is very excited to have produced our very first worm juice. We have been collecting our class and canteen fruit and veg scraps and placing them into school worm/ compost bins. We are excited to use this worm and compost juice to improve our soil. You can also purchase some of this amazing juice for your own gardens!!

  • We have been busy planting!!! Kindergarten have planted a new native garden in our school courtyard and have been rotating the special job of watering our new baby plants each day! We have some new trees growing (they would have enjoyed the rain this week) and you may see some new plants popping up in some of our playground garden beds! If you are staying in Canberra over the January holiday period and would like to water some of our gardens (and having a play on the playground!!), please let Mrs Spackman know.

  • Market Garden - The sustainability team will have a market garden at our end of year thank you BBQ and carols. You can purchase tomato seedlings, fresh herbs and spinach, leeks, spring onions, baby carrots, potatoes, etc. We will also be selling some plants such as strawberries, hydrangeas, gardenias and lemons which could be great gifts for Christmas.  All money raised will go into buying new seedlings for our first 2024 planting!

  • STOP PRESS OUR TADPOLE HAS MORE LEGS.... One of our tadpoles has legs!!!!!!! Seven weeks into our Frogwatch program and not only are the children excited but our staff and visitors to the school are as well. The tadpoles have "Taddie day care" each and every morning where they sun themselves to help them grow stronger !! Do you know how difficult it is to take photos of tadpoles!!!!  Watch this space for more tadpole stories and many more legs!!
