Welcome to Week 9 everyone

This week we had Andrew Brown, a representative from Rotary, visit our school to highlight the significance of World Peace Day.  Our school was the fifth school out of 100 schools to place a Peace Pole in its grounds, making special note of the importance of peace in our world.  The connection between this action and the Prayer from St Francis is easily seen below.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

Our Peace Pole and annual celebration will be a constant reminder of the wise words St Francis gave the world.

SCC Resignations and Nominations 2019 for 2020

I would like to recognise the amazing job that our SCC members do for the school.  This work entails anything from organising and running a BBQ to keeping the finances of the Council in check, ensuring that funds are available to help fund educational programs within the school.  It deliberates over school budgets and acts as a conduit of the school community to the school.

It is therefore with sadness that we say goodbye to Sonia Dutkiewicz, Tony Bufalo, Kelly Hill and John Wellington at the end of the 2019 school year.  As such, the council is calling for new nominees to for the community council for 2020.

Whilst it’s always a shame to see Council members move on, having new parents with fresh ideas and a keen interest in how our school and Council move forward, is very exciting!

A special call out to any parent who has a finance background who might like to nominate for the Treasurer’s position for 2020.

St Jude’s and St John Vianney’s ELC and Weston Creek Child Care Centre Visit

I had a wonderful time visiting our pre-schoolers at two locations yesterday.  It was a lot of fun being a guest reader for the children, listening to how they knew the book I had, why peas should not go into noses and how sick they were when they coughed over me!!!!  As I said loads of fun and I will be looking forward to visiting them again next term.

School Banking – Volunteer needed - Reminder

At the end of this year, one of our wonderful banking parents will be leaving our school as her daughter moves onto high school.  Therefore, we are looking for a parent to help complete school banking.  If you are interested in helping out please contact the front office.

Congratulations – Year 6 ACT Athletics

Well done to Jaeda and Hayley representing our school and the Weston/Woden Region at the ACT Athletics Carnival last week.  The girls performed amazingly well placing 16th and 4th respectively against the entire ACT.  This really is an achievement worth celebrating, well-done girls.

Confirmation

What a wonderful three days our Parish had with our Confirmation candidates celebrating the Sacrament on Saturday night and Sunday morning.  I would like to thank the Year 5/6 teachers who prepared the candidates for confirmation and staff members who were able to leave their own Parishes to celebrate Mass with the children.  A special thanks to our REC, Mrs Thomas for all the work she completed to make this a very special celebration.

Have a great week.
