From the Principal

We had some 'unusual' rockstars but very keen dancers at the disco last Friday night. A great night was had, whether you dusted off vintage clothes, leather jackets, swung guitars or wore an outrageous wig, we certainly danced our shoes off!
A huge thank you to the 3/4 parent organisers and to families for supporting the event.
Summer Uniform
Summer Uniform commences in Term 4, so please check the wardrobe and organise an upgrade if needed. The school clothing pool is stocked with new and pre-loved clothing. Purchases can be made through Qkr! or in person each Thursday from 8:50am. We will have a Week 1 transition period in Term 4 to cater for the unpredictable weather.
A reminder that black leather school shoes are an essential item of uniform, sneakers/sports shoes should only be worn on sport days.

Repeat Notice: Survey Notice
In discussion with staff there is an opportunity for SJV to return to single stream/straight classes in K-6, from the beginning of 2024 onward.
The original decision to go multi-age/composite was due to:
- providing alternative social and learning opportunities and
- the large disparagement between some class sizes (eg. 12 in Year 3 and 32 in Year 4).
There are positives for both multiage/composite classes and for single streamed classes, so we review our class structure annually. Due to our current numbers and what we can predict into the future, we now have an opportunity to make a renewed considered choice.
We would like you to provide your feedback about your preference in:
- Single streamed/straight classes all the way from K-6 ,
- keep things as they are or an alternative combination.
Thank you in anticipation for your valued feedback. Please click on the link below.

Repeat Notice: School Fete Saturday 4th November
Excitement is already building with our Fete coming up later in the year. Please set it aside in your calendar, knowing it promises to be a fun-filled family day. (Of course if you can also help in the lead-up, you can share in the pride of contributing to our great SJV community, the team would love to hear from you. Please contact them at sjvfete@gmail.com.)
Repeat Notice - Class Contacts 2024
Because of the Pandemic, we stopped our Parent Contact Network due to all the isolation rules, unfortunately we did not get our program off the ground quickly enough for this year.
We are calling on parents to be a class contact for their child's class for 2024.
The idea of these contacts is that you are a first point of parent contact within the school. This means you would send an email out to a new family when they arrive and be someone who can help parents if they are unsure of a procedure or need help due to a family circumstance. You can then let the school know. You also might organise 1-2 events throughout the year for interested parents for their child’s class. This could take the form of a Mums or Dads night, a play in the park event or a ride at Stromlo for class students, it could even be a game of soccer on the school oval after classes end for the day.
If you think you would enjoy this role, please contact the Front Office and speak to Jeanette.
Congratulations and Farewell
I'd like to congratulate Anna Mihalyka who has enriched our staff while she completed her final school placement in Kindergarten. The children have benefited from her dedication and enthusiasm for teaching. She will finish her successful placement at the end of the week and I wish her the best in her teaching career. I also thank Mrs Stilling for her willingness to share her knowledge and her hardwork in providing Anna with mentoring time.
Possum Magic Excursion - 22 September
Next Friday, the whole school will travel to the Canberra Theatre to enjoy a live stage performance of Possum Magic.
Grandma Poss uses her magic to turn Hush invisible so that she will be safe from the scary predators that live in the bush. But when Hush decides she no longer wants to be invisible, the two possums must travel across Australia in search of the magic 'Australian' food that will make her visible again.
It should be a wonderful experience for children to watch Mem Fox's story come to life.
Tomorrow is a Uniform Free Day - Please bring in a FETE contribution
In donation for soft drink, jelly crystals, chips, cake mix packets, biscuits, mixed lollies, lolly pops, chocolate blocks, fancy tea or coffee, wine/beer and spirits can be donated, but please dropped off by an adult to the Front Office. Children are able to attend school out of uniform. Please ensure the 'plain clothes' worn are school and activity (Sport day) appropriate.
Start of Term 4
Thank you to staff, children and parents for a positive learning, successful and fun filled Term 3. I wish you all a safe, relaxing and hopefully warm term break.
Term 4 begins on 9th October for all children.
