Happy Birthday to Geordie. H and Jayce. N
On Tuesday the Stingrays and Turtles attended Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. We learnt this feast day is important because it reminds us to contemplate Mary's example of fulfilling God's will in her life. The Assumption signals the end to Mary's earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus.
Science week
This week we have been exploring many science concepts, it was even incorporated in our fruit shop where we found that a mandarin that is peeled will sink BUT a mandarin with its peel floats! Some of the experiments we have completed this week are: floating and sinking, skittles rainbow, magic milk, static electricity, baking soda and vinegar reactions and rainbow celery.
Special Day for MND and Cancer
Thank you for supporting our special day for Motor Neuron Disease and Cancer. We have families in our school who have been heavily impacted by these diseases. As well as raising awareness and having a wonderful community day, we raised over $3,200 for these important causes, with more trickling in this week.
Community Council Meeting tonight
The St Jude’s Community Council will meet tonight at 6pm in the library. All are welcome to attend. See the Principals message for more information.
Book Week
We are looking forward to celebrating Book Week, the theme this year is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. Lobsters are invited to come to school dressed up as their favourite book character on Friday 25th August. Stingrays and Turtles will participate with the Primary School on Wednesday 30th August, we will be parading through the school carpark (it will be closed off!) at 9am. Feel free to stick around for some photos.
Floriade
Every year the ELC support the Rotary Club Floriade Gnome display. We will be creating our own mini-Floriade here at the ELC. Keep your eyes out for what will be popping up in our gardens very soon.
Mura Gadi Monday and Friday
We have had a lovely week of weather to enjoy our Mura Gadi program. Next week we will trial having Mura Gadi on a Monday and Friday so please pack your child’s gum boots on these days.
Gymnastics
Thank you to all of the families that provided feedback on the gymnastics program. It was an overwhelming ‘Yes’ to participate for a second term. We are currently arranging days with Woden Valley Gymnastics for term 4.
Hats
Now that we’re getting closer to Spring, please ensure that your child has a labelled hat in their bag. We monitor the UV rating closely, when UV is 3 or more we must wear hats as part of our sun protection policy.
