Principal's Message
Dear SJV Families
Parent Teacher Interviews - Wk 5 - 22nd - 26th May
Teachers will be holding interviews for parents in under two weeks' time. These interviews are aimed at giving parents a clear idea of their child's grasp of the Australian Curriculum according to their age and grade level. A Compass notification has been sent out to parents advising that the on-line bookings are now up and ready to book your appointment. Please take this opportunity to see what your child has achieved and the challenges that lie ahead. This will be a time for your child, you and the teacher, to address goals for the remainder of the year.
Enrolment Period - May
The best recommendation that people can receive is from you, so if you know someone who is thinking of choosing a school for next year, let them know that SJV would be their best choice.
Following is a list of reasons people have shared in the past:
. small class sizes mean we are able to adapt learning to suit the individual student.
. We focus on English to build students' confidence in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
. Students have access to an integrated STEM program.
. Exciting opportunities in coding and robotics.
. Specialist programs enrich student learning in sports, Italian, choir and public speaking (Rostrum).
. Dedicated leadership opportunities for senior students to prepare them for life after SJV.
. Gospel values are integrated into the curriculum allowing conversation about values, morals and expectations.
. Sporting carnivals and activities to challenge students of all abilities.
Visit from Ross Fox - Director of Catholic Education Canberra & Goulburn Archdiocese
Today we enjoyed a visit from Mr Ross Fox, the Director of Catholic Education for Canberra Goulburn. Ross was very impressed by the learning he observed from the students and the teaching he saw from our teachers. For more information and pictures, head to our Facebook page.
SJV School Community Council
You will notice a new section in our newsletter (the Community Council Corner) that will be published twice per term. This is communication in regards to your School Community Council and what they are doing to promote the education and welfare of your child through their support of the school. From my perspective, I believe that the role our council parent representatives play in supporting me and all of our students is invaluable.
Calvary Public Hospital
There is some important information in this weeks' newsletter (as there is every week) which I would like to draw to your attention to.
Attached to this newsletter, you will find a letter from the Archbishop regarding information about the forced acquisition of Calvary Hospital. This has come as a shock for all of Canberra and I ask you to read the attachment carefully. Calvary Public Hospital, Bruce
Walk to School Day
Tomorrow I look forward to walking to school safely with some early risers. I will be promoting the Walk Safely to School Day, meeting at the Weston Creek Labor Club, Stirling, grass area near the underpass between 8am-8:15am. We will then walk to school together and enjoy cereal and fruit (Coffee and cereal bars for adults) in the library.
Have a great week everyone.
God Bless
Peter Rodda
