Simultaneous story time is on again this year - Wednesday from 11am this is when all schools in Australia, participate in reading the same story at the same time. The book this year is the 'the speedy sloth' written by Rebeca Young. 
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 23rd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

e Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. The Challenge aspires to allow every young person in the ACT to discover the joy reading can bring.
St John Vianney’s is proud to have all students registered in The Challenge this year. We have begun recording all the wonderful books we have read!
VISIT FROM HEALTHY HAROLD - LIFE EDUCATION TRUCK
Lovable giraffe, caring and loyal friend and passionate advocate for the health and safety of all Aussie children and their families, Healthy Harold is an Australian icon.
Who remembers Healthy Harold visits to school.?.... he will be here in his truck in the carpark next week. Please make sure you are aware of picking up and dropping off children as car park and visibility will be different.

Book Fair
Scholastic Book fair donates 40% of all book fair sales to the school, this is a huge
fundraising opportunity for our school library.
This year the book fair will be happening in week 5 along side parent teacher interviews - Please note that last week's newsletter mentions book fair is week 6, this has been moved to make the book fair accessible to more families.
The children will have the opportunity to visit the book fair on Monday and make a wish list of possible books they would like to purchase.
The Book Fair will be open from 8am - 5:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. A flyer went home this week with your child with details on how to purchase books online if you can't come into the book fair within those times.
EFTPOS and online purchasing is our preferred method of payment Scholastic Book Fair 2023, however we will accept cash.
