SJV KINDNESS DAY AND COLOUR CELEBRATION
FRIDAY 18Th NOVEMBER
Nationally Kindness Day is held on 13th November. SJV launched their commitment to Kindness Week during Children’s Week 2022. We pledged our commitment to fill our school and community with Kindness. Students have completed learning tasks that have reinforced what it means to act kindly, what it looks like and how it feels to be kind and to receive kindness.
The plan for the day is as follows:
- Children arrive to school in old, coloured clothing (appropriate closed shoes, old clothes that may be stained with colour run powder)
- SJV community will spread kindness in our community by laying their kindness rocks in the local area (Classes will walk around our local area and leave ‘kindness rocks’ for community members to find. Classes will return to complete kindness activities
- Recess as normal
- Following Recess, children will spend time participating in the variety of activities, which Year 6 have organised as part of Side Show Alley. Children will require silver coins to participate, and funds collected will be forwarded to Catholic Missions. All activities will cost between 10c to a maximum of 30c.
- Just before lunch we will hold a kindness raffle draw. Three children will be rewarded with a ‘kindness plush Bigfoot’, acknowledging their commitment to treating others with kindness.
- Lunch as normal –Optional ‘Kindness’ lunch- ordered through the canteen.
- At approximately 2.45pm until the end of the day children will move onto the oval area and be covered with coloured powder (corn-starch and food colouring), to celebrate the happiness of spreading kindness. The colour we will be using is the Colour Run powder from the Walkathon. Children can wear a white or light coloured T-shirt over their ‘coloured clothes’, to enhance the appearance of colour. Past year’s walkathon shirts could be an option, or an adult’s old t-shirt. Kindergarten children could use their orientation t-shirt.
- You may like to provide a change of clothes or provide a towel to avoid staining car seats. The powder is made with corn-starch and food colouring, it is non-toxic however could stain clothing and furniture. You may wish to supply your child with wet wipes to remove excess powder from arms and legs.
- The day will end with children enjoying being covered by colour, running, and playing around the school grounds.
- If the weather is unkind, we will make the necessary changes.
WHAT DO CHILDREN NEED?
