Gospel Reflection Luke 19:1-10
And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek out and save what was lost.’
This week’s Gospel reading tells the story of Zacchaeus, the tax collector who climbed the tree to see Jesus as he walked through the town. As a wealthy tax collector, Zacchaeus had a terrible reputation, and had most likely cheated people to obtain his wealth. As Jesus walked through the town, he singled Zacchaeus out and asked him to come down from the tree, before going to share a meal with him. The crowd did not understand why Jesus would choose to spend time with such a man? Yet we see in this story, Zacchaeus experienced a true encounter with Jesus and became a changed man because of it. This story reminds us that each of us is capable of bringing about change by offering people a chance for redemption. Although this is not always easy, this is what Jesus would do, and as Christians, we need to strive to live a life that follows His example, the best we possibly can.
World Mission Month
To celebrate World Mission Month, St John Vianney has a long-standing traditional fund-raiser called Side Show Alley. For families who are new to our school, our Year 6 students organise an afternoon of carnival-like games and activities for students in K-5. The activities cost no more than 50 cents each to participate in, and the money raised goes to support the work of Catholic Mission. We have postponed this event until Friday November 18th (Week 6). In the meantime, we ask that you try and set aside some loose change/coins to send in with your child on the day so they can join in on the fun! If possible, we ask that only coins be sent in rather than notes, as coins are easier for our Year 6 students to work with, and give change as necessary. We are looking forward to a great event!
Parish Mass
We will be attending one more Parish Mass this term as a school on Wednesday 23rd November (week7) at 9:30am. All parishioners are welcome to attend. Another Mass was scheduled for Wednesday 30th November, however, this has been cancelled as Father Michael will be away.
