Principal's Message
Welcome to Week 7 everyone
Last week I attended the Key Personnel Day with Mrs Thomas, our REC where there was a large emphasis of youth and their importance in the future of the Catholic Church. On the day, we were given a publication of Christus Vivit and there was a passage that really struck me -
"Certainly, as members of the Church, we should not stand apart from others. All should regard us as friends and neighbours."
When we are part of such a caring community as SJV, it is sometimes easy to forget that there are always times when we can reach out to others, say hello, and make a new friendships. If you get the opportunity, introduce yourself to someone in our community that you do not know and make them feel welcome.
Fete – Raffle Ticket Coordinator – URGENTLY NEEDED
We still need a coordinator for this event. This is a major fundraiser for our school during the Fete period. The money is used for some of the following activities - our Gymnastics program, maths support and software licences (e.g. Reading Eggs).
If you feel that you can help with this please do not wonder if you can make a difference, you will!
The school would also be able to put you in contact with past coordinators, so please put your hand up for this important role.
Tournament of Minds 2019
Well done to the three teams from SJV that did a fantastic job creating, preparing, constructing and performing plays that they had fully conceived on their own and brought to life through hard work. The children presented a literacy or social studies task in front of judges to convey a message. Then they were given another task and had to come up with a solution in 7 minutes.
I watched all the presentations and the children did a fabulous job. An extra special congratulations to Emilie, Kaitlin, Emily, Zara, Chloe, Carys and Alyssa who have been selected to represent SJV in the ACT Regional Finals, a massive accomplishment.
Finally, I would like to thanks to Mrs Mullamphy, Mrs Heath and Mr Lowe for making time to help supervise and work with the children so they could participate in this wonderful opportunity.
Recycling
The school will soon be investing in new bin lids (see below) to make our recycling easier and more effective. Please continue to encourage your child to do their part.
School Satisfaction Survey
A parent asked me some clarifying questions regarding our School Satisfaction Survey and I realised that I have not given everyone all the information they need. Therefore, I have placed the scale that was used to formulate the survey. A reminder that the summary page can be found in the Wk. 5 Newsletter.
It is noteworthy that our average scores were between 2.0 and 2.5 meaning that families either agreed or strongly agreed with the question. There is however, still room for improvement for our school and this survey will help us formulate part of our Annual Improvement plan for 2020.
Confirmation
I wish all of Year 6 the best for their Confirmation Retreat Day tomorrow. The children will meet Archbishop Christopher (if you have not met the Archbishop we have his photo in our Front Foyer) who will discuss with them the importance of the Sacrament and of course, he will be Confirming our candidates the following weekend. The children will also complete some activities that will strengthen their understanding of the Sacrament and why it is such an important Rite of Initiation into our church.
Have a great week.
