As children grow older, they are capable of doing more and taking on more responsibilities. For this reason, it is important for them to learn how to set priorities. This is certainly true for adults as well. We often make commitments but don't prioritise them in our busy lives so they fall by the wayside. Sometimes making priorities and sticking to them can be very difficult and requires sacrifice.
In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus speaks to the crowd about how if we want to follow Him, we have to make him our number-one priority. He also acknowledges how difficult this can be.
Jesus explains that we can't love anyone or anything more than Him if we really want to follow Him. Jesus is teaching us that in order to follow Him, we need to set priorities, making Him number one.
The question is then asked that if following Jesus is so difficult, why would you want to do it? Jesus wants us to know that by following Him, we will find true happiness and eternal life.
This week as a family, talk about where Jesus currently fits on your list of priorities. Could Jesus be moved up the list? How may that happen as an individual but also as a family.
CONFIRMATION RETREAT DAY
A reminder that ALL year 6 children will participate in the retreat day tomorrow, even if they are not making the Sacrament of Confirmation. Casual clothes can be worn but please remember to bring a drink bottle, a hat and wear closed in shoes. Lunch (pizza and a fruit popper) and recess (finger bun) will be provided for all children.
A reminder that if your child is receiving the Sacrament on Saturday night, they will need to attend the retreat day at St Jude's.
