Gospel Reflection John 13:31-35

‘I give you a new commandment: love one another; just as I have loved you,’

Today’s Gospel reflection comes from Loyola Press, Sunday Connection:

‘John's Gospel does not present a sentimental view of love. This is a type of love that is shown in service and sacrifice. It is difficult to choose to love when faced with hatred and anger. Jesus tells the disciples that all will know that they are his disciples because of the love they show for one another. This description of the early Christian community will be repeated in the Acts of the Apostles: “See how they love one another.” Christian love is the hallmark of Christianity. We see it lived in the witness of the martyrs. We see it in the example of the lives of the saints. We see it in the holy women and men who live and love daily, making small and large sacrifices for others.’

First Eucharist 2022

Our candidates making their First Eucharist this year will begin their preparations at this Sunday’s Commitment Mass (St John Vianney’s Church, 9am). The Mass will be followed by the first of four formation sessions to be held following Sunday Mass over the coming weeks. Key dates for First Eucharist are listed below.

19th June - Formation Session 4 (St John Vianney's School), 10am.

21st June - Reflection Evening (St John Vianney's Church), 6pm.

25th June - Sacrament of First Eucharist, (St Jude's Church), 5pm

26th June - Sacrament of First Eucharist, (St John Vianney's Church), 9am

Confirmation 2022

An email was sent to parents of our Year 6 students this week with key dates for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will be held later this year. Registration for Confirmation is now available through the Parish’s Qkr! account, and is open to any Year 6 student who has been baptised and received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
