Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to the end of Wk3. Please keep our Yr 3 & 5 students in your prayers as they are busily sitting NAPLAN tests this week. We also keep Mrs Malpas in our prayers for a safe return, as she leaves today to represent our school as a Highly Accomplished Teacher at the National HALT Conference in Adelaide.
Holy Lord, Thank You for grace.
Please help me move beyond the hurdles that trip me up and give me the strength and wisdom to look up and see the hope I run toward in Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. ~ Gwen Smith
Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea and Gifts
A huge thank you goes to Yash McCann and her amazing team of 3/4 mums, who made our Mother’s Day celebration a fantastic event. Whether it was organising our photo booth, wrapping presents or laminating fabulous pictures, these ladies took care of it all. A shout-out to Mrs Simpson who organised our coffee van (which was well used) and Mrs De Rosa who finalised all the orders for pastries. A great team effort meant a great event!
X-Country Carnival – Friday 6th May 1:50pm-2:45pm
A huge round of applause goes to our organisers, Karen Stilling and Sarah Emerson, who put together a fabulous carnival. This also would not have gone as smoothly as it did without our amazing volunteers. The children had a marvellous day with everyone completing the challenging course.
Late Arrivals and Early Departures
Could you please ensure that your son or daughter arrive and leave school at the allotted times. If a student arrives 30 min late in the morning, they have already missed 25min of key literacy time. This is over two hours every week, which equates to almost half a term of learning in literacy alone over the course of a year. Many teachers use dedicated programs (eg. IntialLit) in the morning that cover concepts that students cannot miss. All staff would appreciate your support in this area.
May - Enrolment Month
We already have many enrolments for kindergarten next year. If, however you know someone who is looking to start school in 2023 or move schools this year or next, please let them know what a wonderful school you attend here at SJV. We would love to take them on a tour of the school.
Athletics Carnival – Postponed. New date – Wednesday 18th May
Unfortunately, due to the weather, we needed to make an early call to postpone the carnival so we could re-book the oval and organise volunteers. A Compass message has gone out which contains all the relevant information.
Parent Class Contacts – Shout Out - Reminder
We are still placing a shout out for Parent Class Contacts. If you haven’t signed up for a role at SJV before, or even if you have, this is your chanced to add value to your child’s class. It usually means a couple of organised activities per year or semester. Please contact the Front Office if available.
School Communication
Recently some parents have been giving important information to our wonderful Office Manager Jeanette, regarding their son/daughter. Unfortunately, Jeanette is extremely busy in the office and this communication needs to go directly to the classroom teachers as they will be the ones who need this information, unless it is a matter that is directly connected with the Front Office (eg. Dispensing medication, covid reporting). Could you please ensure all information (eg. Sick parent, a trauma event, a student not sleeping etc) that will impact your child in the classroom is relayed directly to the teacher. Staff Contact Details
School Events/Claim the Date – Working Bee Sunday 5th June and Trivia Night Friday 17th June
Please place these events in your diary. The Working Bee will begin at 9am on Sunday 5th June and more information will follow soon in regard to the start time of the Trivia Night. We have not had either of these events scheduled for two years, so it would be great to have everyone come along and celebrate who we are as a community.
God Bless
