Gospel Reflection John 21:1-19

As soon as they came ashore they saw that there was some bread there, and a charcoal fire with fish cooking on it. Jesus said, ‘Bring some of the fish you have just caught.’

This Sunday’s Gospel tells of the third time Jesus appeared to the disciples after his resurrection. It is the story of when Simon Peter and Thomas go out fishing and come back with nothing. In the morning Jesus encourages them to go out again, and they come back with an enormous catch.

We heard this story not so long ago as told by Luke. In John’s retelling of the story, what caught my attention was Jesus’ invitation to the disciples to join Him for the meal, rather than the miracle of the catch itself. Jesus is the host of this meal, and He directly calls the disciples to join Him.  In the same way, Jesus calls us to gather together to celebrate the Eucharist each week at Mass. In the Eucharist, we are fed, nourished and sustained in the bread and wine that has become Jesus’ Body and Blood. It is an opportunity to take time in the chaos and pace of a sometimes hectic life, to stop and share this meal and this time with our family and friends.  It is a precious gift that we are offered each week, should we choose to accept our invitation.

Project Compassion and Easter Raffle

A big thank you to everyone for such an outstanding effort in raising funds for Caritas’ Project Compassion and Ukraine fundraising appeals. Our community raised over $360 this year. These funds will support the life-changing programs Caritas provides all around the world. A special thank you to Mrs Sarah Emerson and students from our School Representative Council for all their hard work promoting and selling tickets for the Easter Raffle.
