Gospel Reflection: John 8:1-11
‘If there is one of you who has not sinned, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.’
The following reflection has been taken from Loyola Press Sunday Connection. This is a wonderful resource to help break open the gospel as a family and I highly recommend you taking the time to have a look. “The Gospel for the fifth Sunday of Lent continues to offer lessons about God's mercy and forgiveness. Last Sunday we heard the Parable of the Prodigal Son from the Gospel of Luke. Today we hear not a parable, but the report from John's Gospel of an encounter among Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees, and a woman caught in adultery.
Jesus' response to those who accuse the woman is more than a caution to us about making judgement of others. It is a profound lesson in divine mercy and forgiveness. As sinners, we are all unworthy to judge the sins of others and we would stand convicted by God for our transgressions. Yet Jesus, the one without sin and thus our judge, offers us who are sinners his mercy and forgiveness. Redeemed by Jesus' compassion, we are sent to sin no more and to live in God's love and peace.”
Reconciliation 2022
It has been wonderful to see our Reconciliation candidates and their parents at Mass and at our sessions at school afterwards over the past two weeks. This Sunday will be our last session before our Reflection Evening on Tuesday night. Our candidates from SJV will make their first Reconciliation this Wednesday and I ask that we as a community keep our students in your prayers this week.
Project Compassion
We will be finishing our fundraising efforts for Project Compassion on the last day of term with a free uniform day for a gold coin donation. Thank you for your generous support of the Project Compassion campaign this year.
