A message from the Assistant Principal and Mrs D's "Thought of the Week"

with Nina De Rosa

Welcome Back!

Briefly, for those who I haven’t met yet, I’m Nina De Rosa.  I have been on maternity leave for 12 months as I welcomed Matteo to our family, September last year.  It is fantastic to be returning to my Assistant Principal role.

I have enjoyed reconnecting with all SJV students via Teams during their check-ins this week.  Although challenging it has been wonderful to see how expertly students have embraced online learning and are so adapt at utilising the MS Teams tools.  I enjoyed seeing all the happy smiles and have also appreciated the enthusiastic welcome back. Thank you.

World Space Week

This week we celebrate World Space Week.  World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:

  • October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
  • October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

There has been excitement and world coverage about various people around the world taking the leap and travelling into space.  This event highlights the importance of following your dreams no matter ‘how out there’ they may seem.

Nina Week1I fashioned a stunning headpiece at the class Check-ins this week in celebration.  We had a little fun guessing why I chose this particular attire.  To support the event, remote learning and Stem, classes have received a World Space Week Learning Grid to explore.  These activities are optional and may provide families with alternate family activities during lockdown.
This year's theme celebrates 'Women in Space!'  If you would like more information about world events or even chat to an astronaut, details can be found at https://www.worldspaceweek.org/
