Principal's Message

Principal's Message

Welcome to the end of Wk 1.  I have placed a prayer below that I shared with staff this morning.

Prayer for a New Normal

The World as we knew it is gone, and for what feels like such a long time we have experienced so much hardship during this Pandemic.  As we prepare to walk into the future we pray for the "new normal" to come.  May our hearts be unified in You more than ever.  May the tender moments of seeing someone again in person be all the more rich and treasured.  May the reunions, interactions, and moments ahead be held in such intentionality and may we turn to You in sincere gratitude.  Help us to come out of this Pandemic better, not bitter.  Help us to become more considerate of others, more mindful of how we can help one another, and how we can serve You and Your children well.  We thank You that no matter how dark the night may get, there is the hope of the dawn to come.

Welcome back Mrs De Rosa

Nina has returned to SJV from this term onward after taking a years maternity leave.  She has returned to her role as Assistant Principal and the head of Learning Support.  It was wonderful to see Nina in all the children's check-ins this week as she slips immediately back into her role as educator.

Friday Magic Shows

Zoom links were sent to parents for our upcoming magic Shows in a recent email.  If you did not receive these, please contact the Front Office.

Return to School

As I indicated through my correspondence during the holidays, we now have a staged plan for returning to school, which is fabulous.

If you missed this correspondence, the return to face to face schooling will be as follows:

  • Kindergarten, Years 1, 2, 6 from 25th October (Week 4, Term 4)
  • Years 3, 4, 5 from 1st November (Week 5 ,Term 4

Covid 19 - A Message from Catholic Education
During the next few weeks Catholic Education will instigate plans for the safe return of students and staff. Like all schools, St John Vianney's follows various COVID-19 Safe requirements as advised by ACT Health which seek to prevent and minimise the transmission of COVID-19.

I want to emphasize that the safety and wellbeing of students and staff is the primary consideration of any decision related to re-opening schools. These requirements are designed to:

  • minimise unnecessary physical interaction between students on school grounds;
  • ensure that students learn and play with those in their cohort, wherever possible;
  • minimise opportunities for transmission and enhance contact tracing;
  • minimise the potential for widespread infection across the school and wider school community.
  • ensure that handwashing, hand sanitising and school cleaning are in line with ACT guidelines.

All our school staff have been encouraged to be vaccinated, and I can advise that many of our staff are vaccinated or in the process of organising to be vaccinated.

Due to Australian privacy law requirements, we are unable to advise the vaccination status of individual schools or school staff.

Staffing

We would like to welcome Mrs Sarah Emerson back to St John Vianney's for 2022 as she has accepted a 12 month contract.  Sarah has been a great addition to our school and is looking forward to continuing her relationship with the SJV community.

God bless you and your families
