Principal's Message
Welcome to the end of Wk 5. Below is the Pandemic Prayer that we pray with Fr Michael at mass.
“O Immaculate Mary, Help of Christians, Queen of heaven and earth, and tender Mother of humanity, at this time when a pandemic threatens all your children, we entrust to you our nation, Australia, and all who live in this country.
“We commit to your intercession all the members of our community, beginning with the weakest ones, from the unborn to the sick, the disabled and the elderly.
“We commit to you our families, our young and old, and all who are vulnerable, those who are quarantined or anxious.
“We entrust to your Immaculate Heart those who have lost their livelihood or employment, our pastors and other essential service workers, and our leaders at this time.
“We implore your intercession especially for the protection of doctors and nurses and those who minister to the contagious sick in this crisis.
“Reign over us Mother of God and teach us how to make the Heart of Jesus reign triumph in us and around us, as it has reigned and triumphed in you!
“St Joseph, Pray for us.”
COVID 19 - School Readiness
It is clearly better to be prepared than not. As such our wonderful staff has already completed a suite of work ready for this possible event. The children will be able to begin this on Tuesday. We believe that the next four days can be spent preparing for remote learning. Whilst we are only scheduled for 7 days, there is no way of knowing if this will be the case until we receive more information over the next few days.
If you feel that you need to receive extra support in specific areas, such as ICT hardware loans etc, please contact me directly so we are ready to help. Today we sent out over 20 devices to families that needed such support.
More information re: remote learning expectations, timetables, check-ins etc, will be sent to all our families on Monday.
Earlier today I sent out to you information from CE in regard to Covid 19, my apologies for the first copy as it contained an extra attachment from last year which should not have been sent.
Canteen Manager 2022
Our wonderful Canteen Manager 'Kaz' will be handing in her spatula and finishing her time with SJV at the end of the year, as her daughter moves onto high school.
As such there will be a paid position available in 2022 with hours beginning at 9am and finishing at approximately 2pm. If you or someone you know would be interested in this position, and you have the required experience, please contact me at peter.rodda@cg.catholic.edu.au
School Events - Please be involved
Father's Day (Years 3/4) - Friday 3rd September - 8am-9am
School Disco (Years 5/6) - Thursday 16th September - 5:30pm-7:30pm
I am seeking organisers for two events scheduled later in this term. As indicated in the title, these volunteers need to come from Year 3/4 and 5/6.
These are important events and the school needs the support of parents to run them. If you have not been involved in an event before, this could be an opportune time for you to put your hand up to help.
Clearly all of these events are now Covid-19 pending.
Students Leaving SJV in 2021
As we approach the end of the year, some families move on, relocate their address or leave Canberra. If you believe that your son or daughter will not be at St John Vianney's in 2022, could you please contact the Front Office to advise us where your child's new school will be.
50th Anniversary Mass and 50th Anniversary Ball
Our Anniversary Mass is currently scheduled to be on Wednesday 1st September at 9:30am. This is hopefully to be followed by a Morning Tea in the school hall. Everyone is welcome, please remember to only attend if you are well and do not forget to sign into the church and the school using the CBR app.
Once again these two amazing events are Covid-19 pending. If the Ball does not go ahead then all monies will be refunded. When we have more information we will communicate this immediately to community.
Confirmation Meeting Tonight - Cancelled
Anyone who needed to attend a committtment mass this weekend will be unable to do so, therefore they should email their forms to Mrs Laura Matchett.
At this point in time, Confirmation itself will still occur on the scheduled date, unless we inform you otherwise, due to the evolving situation.
South Weston Athletics Carnival - Postponed
Due to the Pandemic this has been rescheduled at this point in time to Monday August 23. This is a very optimistic date. If it is indeed on at this time, we will let you know.
God bless you and your families
