Principal's Message
Welcome to the end Week 3 Term 3
The term is moving fast, please don’t blink or you may miss it.
Could your family please offer up a prayer to Mary for the people in Sydney who are in Lockdown, so that they can get through this challenging time. Hail Mary . . . . . . .
St John Vianney’s Feast Day – Wednesday 4th August
This should be a fun-filled event, with a Feast Day Mass, the creation of a special SJV book, and a Talent Show planned for the day. If you would like to join us for the Mass it would be wonderful to see you next Wednesday.
Colour Run Wednesday 11th August – Raise funds for new student desks and chairs
Our Colour Run has kicked off with a bang and pepperoni! Yes, it was congratulations for 5/6J who won the Pizza Lunch Party just for registering on the Colour Run Website. I have placed this link below for your reference if you haven't yet registered -(https://www.schoolfundraising.com.au/ - The next class prize is a bowl full of treats to the class that has the most registrations and raises the most money in one week. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to purchase new chairs and desks for Years 3-6. It’s a fun event, so if you can, please support your child.
50th Anniversary Mass and Morning Tea Wednesday 1st September
Our 50th Anniversary Mass is our most important planned event where we are able to celebrate the core of who we are, a faith-filled community.
The mass itself will be held on Wednesday 1st September at 9:30 am and will be immediately followed by a Morning Tea in our school hall. All are welcome, including parishioners. Clearly, we will need to adhere to our Covid 19 Guidelines. This means that if you would like to attend the mass and morning tea could you please let the front office know – office.sjv@cg.catholic.edu.au or phone - 62882383, so we can make sure that we do not break our 1 to 2m x 2m ratios. Once again I would remind everyone to check in with the CBR App upon arrival and if you are unwell please stay home.
50th Anniversary Ball–September 4th, 2021- https://sjv50.eventbrite.com.au
The Ball committee has confirmed dates and the Ball will be held at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden in the Corinna Room on September 4th. Please note that you can register for the ball by using the above link, taking you to the Eventbrite website. Follow the prompts and book a table.
Yesterday you will have received a digital flyer via email and a hard copy, advertising this event.
It would be wonderful if everyone in our school could attend. I know the staff has already requisitioned almost 3 tables and are looking forward to celebrating with the entire community such a special event.
Annual School Fete - November 6th - Volunteers Needed
Today I have contacted some parents to see if they are able to help out our Fete by coordinating a stall, everyone I have spoken to so far are very keen to help again this year. This however, does not mean running it alone. These stalls often need around 4-6 parents to make sure they run well and enable parents to take breaks throughout the 4hr session. It is also a great way to meet new parents in our community.
Below I have listed stalls that will need volunteers to help the coordinator make it a success -
- Chip on A Stick
- Toy Stall
- Drinks/Chips and Ice Creams
- White Elephant
- Sideshow Alley
- Craft Stall
- Cake Stall
- Book Stall
- Chocolate Wheel
Helping means passing someone a book, selling a cake or handing them a pre-loved piece of bric-a-brac. A volunteer session lasts for 2hrs. Not much time to give to make our one big fundraiser a success.
Please contact office.sjv@cg.catholic.edu.au to advise which stall you would like to assist with.
Keep our kids safe at sporting events.
I have been asked to pass the below message onto our community from CE on behalf of the ACT Government.
Parking inspectors will be patrolling local sporting events throughout the year to keep our future athletes and Olympians safe - break the rules and you risk a fine.
Don’t park on footpaths, across driveways, no stopping zones, no parking zones, bus zones or in disabled parking spaces.
Can’t find a park? Be a sport, park legally and venture further afield.
You’ll be keeping us all safe and it will be good for your fitness too!
Please also remember to treat our parking inspectors with respect.
Like umpires on the field, they are enforcing the rules to keep us all safe.
To report unsafe and illegal parking call 13 22 81 or visit www.act.gov.au/illegalparking
God bless you and your family
