1 John 4:16 - We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

Over the past few weeks, the children in our school and Parish have celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Many continue to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist each weekend in our Parish Masses. Please keep the children and families in our daily prayers.

Thumbs up to Mathletics!

In the next few weeks, your sons and daughters may ask you go onto the computer or Ipad to play Mathletics.  Please in this instance say YES – absolutely you can go on the computer!!

St John Vianney is trialling Mathletics. Over the past 13 years, I have been fortunate to witness firsthand what a difference the online Mathematics Mathletics program makes to the lives of learners. Not only does Mathletics empower our teachers to support their students’ learning in the classroom, but the program also provides a safe, encouraging learning environment that helps your child grow, gain confidence in their own Mathematical ability and achieve their best. It is actually really fun and to be honest the coloured graphics are amazing.

Just last month, ACARA released its draft revision of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics with a view to “refine, realign and declutter” the content. This has been long overdue and welcomed by all Maths teachers throughout Australia. Back to basics is the mantra!

This week, you child has received a login and password from the teacher and has had a go logging into Mathletics. The teachers can assign your child differentiated Maths learning that must be completed before they explore other games in this program. An added feature is the PLAY section found on the landing page. The students are also able to practice their mathematical speed using the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) when playing against other same grade and year level students from all around the world.   This causes great excitement and improves mental computation. Homework can also be set for your child by the teacher, which I am sure you will agree is an added bonus.

I have heard many times throughout my career, students say ‘I hate Maths’ and ‘I can’t do that.’ Let’s hope over the next few weeks we see a positive change and attitude towards Maths through using Mathletics. I’d love to hear “look what I can do now, let me show you, I played someone from England or Asia!” For more information, please go to their website:  https://www.mathletics.com/au/

I look forward and welcome your feedback.

God bless.

Jo Reed
