Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the end of Wk 5.

In our staffroom, we often finish our prayers with - ‘for those prayers spoken and for the ones that remain in our heart, St Jude and St John Vianney, pray for us.’

Perhaps sometime over the weekend you can pray as a family for someone you know who needs your prayers, vocalise it and be a role model for you children.  Prayers are important not only for us but for our world.

SJV Mega Raffle

Well done to Zoe Bufalo who received $50 worth of Athlete’s Foot vouchers and a $10 MacDonald’s Voucher for selling raffle tickets to raise money for our school. I think Zoe is up to book number 6!!! A great reminder to us all of what a dedicated little girl can do to help raise funds for our school.

The raffle is our one and only fundraiser for the year, so it would be great if you can get behind it and sell your allocated book.  If however, you can sell more, please do so.   It would be wonderful to recognise more families with some shoe vouchers to recognise all the hard yards that must have been travelled.

End of School Year Event

This has been a very hectic year with the school often not able to celebrate or to meet as a community.  Current restrictions have changed and the SCC are hoping that this will allow an end of year BBQ for our whole community with some fun activities planned for our students. Hopefully we will have more information for you next week.

Parish BBQ

A reminder that the Parish BBQ will be on the 4th December at St Jude’s Primary School beginning at 6pm.  This is a fun affair with the parish putting on the meat and drinks for all our Parish families.  If you are attending, could you please contact the Parish for RSVP purposes.

New Lunch Hours

The new break times have been a great success so far.  The children are receiving their lunch orders on time and there is more time for organisation in the Canteen.  There has been little or no disruption to the children, so our new schedule is here to stay.  We still need more volunteers for the Canteen to run successfully.  In this week’s newsletter is the Canteen roster, can you please look at this and see where you can help to make our Canteen a success.

Year 5 Parents – Graduation Help Needed

Thank you to those parents who have already made contact with Karen Wilder.  If you have not done so yet and you are a Year 5 parent, could you please contact Karen to see if you can help in some way or another?

Karen’s email is s.k.wilder@bigpond.com

Friendship 5 – Class Placement 2021

The system for class placements for students is currently under review.  In the past students moving into 3/4 or 5/6 would select 5 friends and they would be placed with at least one of these friends.

A new process is being discussed with staff. This would place the onus of classroom selection solely on the teacher, who has worked with the cohort for the entire year.  Teachers are well aware of who the children associate with and what environment best supports their learning.  Under this model, there would still be an opportunity to meet with the school Principal to raise concerns parents might have.  I will keep you informed of the outcome.

Kinder 2021 Sentiments
I have copied and pasted some kind words from two of our new Kinder families for 2021.  It is always nice to receive positive feedback.

Dear Peter and Sharee,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you both and the team at SJV for the Kindergarten orientation on Tuesday.

The information was really well presented and so useful, and made my husband and I feel even more confident in our decision to send our daughter to SJV in 2021.

Thank you both for making her feel so welcome. She loved making the monkey picture, Sharee, and the show bag has been a real hit too! So thoughtful of you. It’s made her feel so very excited about “Big School”. She took her drink bottle to bed last night, lol.

Dear Jeanette

I just wanted to say a big thank you for today’s orientation. It was so good, helpful and informative. My son had such a great time. We’re both really looking forward to him starting at St John Vianney’s. I feel so lucky to have him going there. I've subscribed to the weekly newsletters and had a read of the last one. It's so great seeing the teachers get so involved, and it looks like a lot of fun.

My son and I are so lucky to be part of this community.

Stay safe and God bless.
